Possible 1986 Bayliner Capri acquisition - Need advice

So, this 1986 Bayliner came on Craigslist for $600. I've seen a lot of posts that Bayliners are notorious for rotting from the inside out and the current owner admits the floorboards need replacing, which probably means rot all the way through and into the foam. The original motor (a 70HP outboard) was pulled to use in another boat, so the price does not include a motor. I've posted a few pics of the boat. I have not gone to look at it yet, but it would appear that the hull has been taken care of, it simply sat out in the weather and deteriorated inside.

Thoughts on whether this particular boat would be worth the cost, understanding that I will be looking at a complete rehab.

$2K to 3K for materials 100 - 150 hours labor $1,000 for replacement motor $600 initial investment $4,600. VS. $4600 boat you could go buy that MIGHT be Lake Ready and then again it MIGHT have similar issues to this one. It's always a "Crap Shoot" One thing IS for sure IF you like the style of the boat and would want to keep it for several years then the $4,600 investment and your time would ensure you that it would be in GREAT condition and would last you all the years you want to use it. It IS a ton of work and it would NOT be ready until Next season. Now, It's your Decision.

Thanks for the insight, Wood. Good to know what possible costs are involved. I know for a fact that once I was done it would serve me well for a long time to come and I do like the looks of the boat, especially when I see the work others have done with their Bayliners. You are right that a $4600 investment in another boat would not guarantee the same condition as what it would be when I finish. Decisions, decisions.

One other thing you can be sure of. You WILL get all the help you need here on the forum. Plenty of expertise and experience to get you through anything you will run into. If you have the time, and willingness to "Git er Dun!" then I'd say go for it. Take $500 cash offer $400 and I bet you'll bring her home.

Oh, I can tell I'll get the support here if I decide to take this on. You guys are a wealth of information. Two weeks ago I would not have dreamed of taking on a project like this, but you guys make it look easy and provide the support to those of us who have never done it before.
