yeah, MI is a great command to get everything symetrical.

The swim platform will be around the outboard? Guessing that size will be decided when you have the motor chosen and the tilt/trim is figured out.

You must be a mind reader....I have been measuring the limits of the motor, working on roughing out some limits in my drawing to see how the platform and the "hood" fit. I have been optimistic on the swim platform, that may get a redesign based on the motor geometry.

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Ok here is where I am leaving it for today. I have a lot of work on the center console / helm / engine cover. But it is starting to take shape.

At this point the elevation is a little bit ahead of the plan.....need to go back and tweak the plan based on the elevation and see where we are. I also want to soften the engine cover some in elevation. Let me know what you guys think.....love to hear the comments good and bad, its really easy to change now, not so much when the poly fires off :D

Hey arch,
That is looking good, love the bump out lounge chairs and the curved swim platform.

You asked for opinions, so here goes, overall looks good, BUT... I don't particularly care for a combination of the flat sloped front with the curved fronts of the helm and chairs... 2 reasons, 1- I think they clash with each other from a design standpoint, and 2- creating the curved fronts seem like they would be a lot of added work, not so much in the surface/skin as in the structural underneath...however, that being stated, I like the curved look better overall, but only if the entire design followed that concept... the Bow area, the engine cover, etc.

Now once you get the first floor planned out, I have an idea for a second level that raises and lowers to clear low overhead obstacles, both while transporting and boating...similar to the design of a two level car transporter...:cool::D

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Thanks GT1M. I have been toying with the idea of changing the bow to a curve to. I was also thinking of getting rid of the strait section across the bow, just making it a circle in plan. Once we start modeling it in 3d I will start to get a better handle on which design I like. I looked at the slide out as a flat section, but didn't like it at all. A lot of the design depends on what the foam guys can cut out for me. I haven't found anyone local that can do CAD CAM router, only CAD CAM hot wire. I'm afraid the hot wire might limit me a lot. But I hear they can do some pretty amazing stuff, I need to stop by and talk with them this week.

I like the upper deck idea, I'm kind of wondering if I still need that with the loungers and extra space from the slide outs.

By the way what does the caption next to the merc in your signature say?

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Yessir, according to the serial numbers it is a 140, but from what I have learned, that was back in the day when Merc used to rate them at the crank, so it is more like a 115...but what a sweet runnin one, tons of torque... till it blew...now it's at Clams place getting redone. Hopefully by the time I get my boat back together, I'll have this puppy back and ready to go...:)

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

Here is a little bit of an update. I have spent quite a bit of time working on the sliding loungers from a structural standpoint....think I have that figured out. I spent sometime this morning on the console and the engine cover in the middle trying to get the drafting sorted out. I have it pretty close now I think, still need to draw the rear elevation to tweak a few things. I'm still not completely happy with the engine cover.....I may curve the front faces.

I'm hoping to spend a little time working on a mockup of the lounger today.

How are they going to be structurally sound?

Is it basically going to be like a giant drawer pull?

That is probably a good description, I'm making progress on the mockup. So far I'm pretty happy with the look.

You know arch with some slight mods those slide outs could look just like a pair of jet skies. LoL.
Are you planning a switch on us down the trail. LOL:p
I hope you had a great Christmas.

Yeah that thought had occurred to me Bob...just think of them like the torpedoes on a PT boat, one minute you are relaxing in a lounger, the next you get launched, lol!

Re: Pontoon rebuild / redesign

I got the lounge slide out mostly done tonight. It looks a little hodge podge with 3 different colors on it. It also looks a bit big, but I think it will start to come into scale once I add the other parts of the boat.....I also came up with a couple other ideas tonight, but I'm running with this for now.

Hey Arch,

Happy holidays brutha!

Center con rules!

Retracting pod lounge thingy's blow my mind!

I've just had a chance to visit this cool build, and I wanted to say I'm humbled and inspired by your creation Arch. Sincerely dude....

I've always admired Frank Lloyd Wright's work, and much of his art in just a few miles from my house. (see pic in my Avatar) I'm just saying some of the lines of your boat remind me of shapes he uses. Your ideas have form and function. Good stuff man.......

Anyhow, I look forward to your updates!
