That's what I am having a problem finding. Any suggestions on what phrase to google. Does 8 or 10 degrees before TDC sound accurate. I have been reading some other threads about not being able to time the motor. This not my case. I do not have a crankshaft sensor. I have an older modle distributer and turning it a hair left or right does make a difference. I have it timed pretty close by ear. However, it used to idle at 800 rpm. Now it is idle at a hair under 1000 rpms. Any advise, should I adjust the timing first, then the carb?

Thanks, but I just bought one online at harbor freight for 29.99. I don't even want to check amazon because I'm probably gonna find one cheaper. But 30 bucks isn't bad at all. I've paid more for less on a tool I've only used once. Hopefully you guys can check out my old timing light when it goes on display at the smithsonian.
