First boat ever for the family, had it for about 2 weeks and got our money's worth already.

Re: Pics of your classic Wellcraft

I'm a newbie and just traded my motorcycle for this 89 Wellcraft 190 Classic. This is my first week as a boat owner and I'm loving every second of it. I live 10 minutes from a launch on Lake Michigan in Milwaukee. So far she has handled the lake quite well and we spent all last weekend on her.

4.3 Mercruiser Alpha I

Had it checked out at a dealer. They put it through the full inspection, took it out on the water, etc. They said that it was in really good shape for the year and that it's a great boat to own. Only suggestion was having the throttle cable replaced next season when I do the drive service.

Looking forward to getting a lot more boating in before the weather gets too cold. Wish I would have picked it up earlier in the summer.

BTW: Any suggestions for getting some of that dull faded paint looking nice and fresh again besides a repaint? Jellcoat on the bottom actually looks really good. There is just some fading in the red paint that goes in the water.

Touchy subject around here, but a $2 jar of vaseline, left on for a few warm days does wonders!

Re: Pics of your classic Wellcraft

Do you clean it with anything in particular first or just put the Vaseline on?

I washed it with boat wash from a marine store, let it dry then applied with paper towels. After it soaks in a bit I buffed it by hand with a terry towel. It removed oxidation and shined nicely. it's cheap, give it a try, you might be surprised. if not, you can always try more expensive, and labor intensive options. ;)

Re: Pics of your classic Wellcraft

Hi guys,

New to the forum, and just love this thread. We recently inherited my grandfather's 1987 180 Classic. It had been neglected for some time so it desperately needed some attention. After some work, it's running and looking great. I think my grandfather would be proud. I have tons of wonderful memories on this boat with my father and grandfather, and now I get to share it with my sons.

Keep the photos coming. I have really enjoyed them. I rarely see Wellcrafts like these... and I'm proud to be a new part of the Wellcraft community.

WOW! 86 that is an AWESOME boat! I would love to see more pics of your boat. Maybe some of the bow seats and a closer shot showing your swim platform. And Just for personal reference a shot of your trailer. As far as I know there is only myself and sunking22 on here with elites. Yours seems to be in amazing original condition! Great pics!

I just picked up a 1977 Scarab 300 a couple of weeks ago. She needs a little TLC but all in all in pretty decent shape. Especially for what I paid for her. Pictures aren't very good. Taken with a blackberry in rough shape.

Re: Pics of your classic Wellcraft

It's a 1994 Wellcraft Excel 20sl. I Just got it last week. I put the name on it today, got a buddy who owns a graphics shop here in town, so if anyone needs something done drop me a line. The guy I bought it from did the restore, all new interior, he rhino lined the entire trailer, and the back part of the boat for non skid when getting in and out of the water, and now just have to stare at it for the next 6 months till I can take it out for a cruise! LOL
