I wouldn't select imgur. As I noted in a previous post, it's in the same situation as PB and it will likely pull the plug on you eventually.

I certainly cannot vouch for their continued support, but imgur has always banned commercial use of their service, something that PB never did for their free service. And imgur monitors their traffic, so anything attempting to render on eBay, etsy, or amazon will automatically trigger a client side error (AFAIK, according to their TOS). Those commercial users should obviously be using a CDN service, anyway.

At some point imgur may very well attempt to monetize use through a subscription service, but for now it's the best free host out there. My build thread uses it and I haven't had any issues...yet. PB's failure to ban commercial use may have been the impetus for this decision. But that's just speculation. It was certainly a business mistake that other businesses took advantage of.

I have no sympathy for the eBay sellers whining about this, but I feel bad for the guys like jasoutside who lost years of well curated threads on multiple projects.

imgur does get ad revenue from reddit, as most of those inline links go to a page with ads; i.e. the images are not embedded like they are here, at least on reddit's desktop version.

My point being that their situation is somewhat different than PB's in terms of commercial use and their respective TOS.

I just got the notice tonight from Photobucket. I'll not likely spend any time trying to fix all my posts. This is gonna cause a lot of angst for many sites including Iboats. Without pictures, there won't be much interest for me here anymore. It was fun. Bye. - Grandad

You probably dont yet consume enough bandwidth to reach whatever their trigger amount is.

But most that have said
should be saying
because shortly after saying it, me and several others here, like Grandad, eventually all got the speedo broken link image.......

Do you have thousands of PB hosted pix posted into very active forum topics, on multiple forums?

No Title

I just used a generic resizer and saved my picture in the same folder. It seems to work okay. This is for my computer. I made the pic 640x480. Meh, this will do for me.

TC, I was once doing the exact same thing using "mspaint" to resize every shot. And that got old really quick. So I just reset my digital camera, not my smart phone, to take lower resolution shots and load them up to the laptop so I can keep a running picture album of everything I do. And if I want to post pictures on here, I simple post them direct because they are under that size limit of the forums.

I dropped PB years ago because it was another unneeded step tp post pictures to me. And if I tried to put those pictures in special labeled directories, to keep everything in their own place, I lost the connection to the pictures I already posted on my threads. So I stopped using PB for that reason. JMHO

I'm still good. I only have a little over 200 pix on PB and using 10% of my allowed space. I change my size settings on my digital too....

Ice house with a/c for those warm winter days....

PB has an auto size feature that when set, would automatically resize your photo when posting.

Are you saying that because you have limited number of pics that this won't effect you?

I haven't used PB to store any new pics in months, if not years, and always used IMG code to place pics in posts. Well yesterday I got the email and they say that an example of 3rd party hosting is using IMG codes.

When all this broke I did a sample IMG code placement (the foot) in a post to one of the PB threads and it displayed fine. Then I downloaded my PB albums, a few days later the email comes.

I only had about 250 pics on PB and it still showed 0% of used storage. So I'm small potatoes on PB and it doesn't make any difference. I think what triggered the boot was either visiting PB, using the IMG code or combination.

Big or small users, no one is safe!

Grandad - Don't give up. All of us didn't use PB exclusively. There will be pictures, just less and less from Photobucket as we use other ways to illustrate our threads. And new threads will be started with pics using those sources.

I was shut down by PB pretty quick, guess my threads loaded with pics triggered it, anyway I'm moving forward and have already moved 2 threads to MS OneDrive and replaced every single pic in them with their embed code. My SS and Chief condensed are back to being fully loaded with pics. The only disgusting meter pics are from the quotes of others. I'll be sending them all a PM and asking if they'll delete that IMG code from their post if possible.

There was no way I was going to call it quits on all that documented hard work just because of PB being a money grubbing steaming manure heap. 2 more threads to go now.

I wonder if they're trying to crack down on "for profit" users like listings on ebay and such? Would that be using lots of "dead" data? :noidea: I don't really know-I'm not a super computer guy.

PS-nice job waterman. Thanks for your efforts to fix your threads. Not sure how many we can save here with folks that might not be around for one reason or another or folks who can't devote enough time to fix what is likely thousands of threads.

PhotoBucket has gotten greedy!

I just received an email from PhotoBucket today. It stated that they have noticed that I have been using PhotoBucket for 3rd party hosting. They also stated this:"Our Terms of Service does not allow 3rd party hosting with your current account level."

Third party hosting is when you use the IMG feature to post a picture on a forum. I have years of posts here that have images from PhotoBucket. They will all evaporate under this policy. They have disabled my ability to share pictures stored in PhotoBucket unless I upgrade. This is quite unbelievable.

Can you download all your PB pictures, back to your hardrive, in one operation or do you have to do it one picture at a time>
