The old paint on my aluminum boat is startin to peel away. What would be the best way to remove the old paint and prepare the boat for paint? Also, what would be the best type of paint to use for aluminum?

Re: Painting aluminum boat

A number of guys on here have had good results with different brands of paint stripper. Hopefully one of them will come by with specifics. The most important thing when painting bare aluminum is to hit it first with a light coat (not much more than a dusting) of etching primer. Something like this http://www.duplicolor.com/products/selfEtchingPrimer/ As for your top coat, good old Rustoleum works great. And on the high end there are great two part marine paints like Interlux VC performance epoxy.
