What do you mean by head to head carpet?

Also, I do not plan on glassing the deck.. I don't have the time or money..

Head to head .. I mean VS. .. ( In a battle kinda thing ).

If your not going to glass the deck .. then you might want to re-consider carpet.

Zoop,

The least expensive Way to get this done and have it last for a while is Paint the deck with two coats of Rustoleum Oil Based Enamel. Install some Lowes Marine Carpet using Industrial Strength Velcro Strips and Shop Vac it when you get home from the lake. It will last 5+ years at the very least. You should be able to do All this for under $200 bucks.

That's my 2?!!!!

ezmobee, is that just like vinyl flooring?

I do keep the boat trailered and in my garage so it's protected from the elements.

I plan to epoxy the floor, but I'm definitely interested in this vinyl option. that looks really nice and will definitely wick away more moisture than carpet...

That vinyl looks good. What material did you use for those side boards going from the floor to the gunnels? I was going to finish mine but can't decide what to use.

That's just marine carpet. I used it for my side panels and bow/stern decks for the contrast. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/IMG_0487.jpg

Kinda. House vinyl has that thicker paper-type backer. This is closer to a rubberized fabric kinda deal. It isn't particularly cheap though. Best prices when I ordered it was here: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|10918|311409|311410&id=23740

From what I understand, it's actually the same basic product as this decking stuff you can find or order from home centers http://www.deckrite.com/photogallery.html not sure the pricing on that

WithOUt! If you are using Treated Plywood for your deck and you want to get by on the CHEAP then the Seal the edges with PL Premium Urethane Adhesive. Wipe down the deck with Acetone and Paint it. The Oil Based Paint will Last for a LONG Time unless you REALLY abuse the heck out of her.

Sorry, I actually meant what did you use as the structure for the side panels (backer for the carpet) on the sides? If it's plywood, how thick and what type?

1/2" exterior ply painted with porch and floor paint.

I'm not the expert and I love carpet in a boat, but, if you don't have it glassed and your on a tight budge, then paint it and use a non slip additive, light sand for example.

My 78 Glastron deck. I am currently restoring and was amazed to see the deck's solid condition. I had great difficulty removing the old carpet. It was carpeted with a good marine carpet (rubber backing and glued to the deck) Once you have done a good glassing og the deck and with a strong carpet glue and marine carpet, water will not go through the carpet.

I really like the look/feel/sound dampening of carpet, but I'm NOT glassing the deck.. I just can;t afford it. I like Woodonglass' idea of paint and uretahne sealant + a rubber backed carpet. How does that sound..?

The only way to use carpet and not have it rot the wood is to properly seal the floor, paint and other things that are not either epoxy or polyester and glass will not create enough of a barrier to protect the wood. (well there are a few things, but they cost money too)

You either need to go all the way, or skip the carpet, that is if you want it to last.

Re: Paint VS Carpet for a new floor

This thread has confused me... Does epoxy seal the floor? Does paint seal the floor? What can I use to seal the floor!! so that it will last. I plan to seal the underside too BTW.. the ski compartment was the epicenter of the last floor's rot and i imagine that the previous owner did NOT seal the exposed wood and that rotted the compartment and the water soaked into the floor and almost all the way to the edges. So what do i use to seal my new floor once and for all.

BTW -- just an update -- I am currently removing hundreds of pounds of soaked foam and rotted wood :D

Re: Paint VS Carpet for a new floor

Lots of things "seal" the floor but with differing degrees of longevity. Here are things that can seal the floor from best to worst:

- Fiberglass and resin (poly or epoxy)
- Epoxy resin alone (poly resin is worthless without glass, epoxy is fine)
- Marine spar varnish
- Quality porch and floor paint
- Crayola watercolors

What is Poly?

So i'm assuming, if I vacuum my carpet and seal the PT plywood with epoxy, then it should last at least 5 years or so?

How is that Transom/Stringer job working out ?

" Help transom 911 " June 22 Stringer/Trans question thread http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=489586

Hows that other 2 page thread working out for ya ..

" 1977 starcraft restore " July 1 http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=492483

You have only a few pics where Many times pics were asked for..

Dont get me wrong here..but it looked like everyone suggested a full blown resto was in order ( providing updated pics )..how it that coming along ( you didnt really post back on your other threads .. seems like you dont like uploading pics so we can help..

Put some Poly ( Polyester Resin because you had to ask .. showing you dont even Search here on Iboats or even know Anything about resto or otherwise learn terms that you should have known a long time ago in the resto thread ) and slap come glued down carpet.

Your Not going to Vinyl coat your boat..your not going to properly paint/nonskid your boat .. I doubt you would even Marine grade carpet your boat after reading all your started threads..

19 Years old..with some pressure treated deck...without money or time .. Glue down some carpet and let the next guy take care of it when you sell it ..

Im Not being Rash here.. I'm being realistic. You want a boat ride ..Cheap.
