Tonight when we were coming in to the dock i went to put it in reverse to slow down but my motor was trimmed very high and i didn't stop and hit the metal on the end of the dock (probably only doing 5 mph). Its a fiberglass boat and it put a quarter sized deep gouge in the front of it. Its not a hole but the paints gone and you see fiberglass, it happened toward the top of the boat at a point that sits a few feet above the water and there are no cracks coming off of it. My question is how much do i need to worry about this and is there anything that i could paint over it to repair?

Most likely just seal the glass so you don't get water in there. Sounds cosmetic to me. Now you can have fun with out worrying about that first ding.

take a picture of it to west marine. They will sell you a kit with some resin and hardener. That will seal it. They also have the top coat ( gel coat) you get to play with colors.

Easy fix...Go to auto zone and get a tube of "water weld" epoxy putty...Pack the putty into the hole and lightly sand it smooth after it drys....This patch will never come out or leak......

MarineTex is good stuff too. Mix the hardner in, apply the paste, rub smooth with a dripping wet hand & let dry. Not as hard as water weld, but may be a slightly nicer finished product.
