Looked at the price of fish today.------Looks like I will need to put a boat in the water next season to get some food.

Might be using a sailboat belonging to somebody else.----Take it out any time I want.----I have the fishing gear.----Few pennies on diesel to get out on the lake.

The ones you catch yourself are the most expensive.
I dunno , 6kg of blue cod fillets retails for 420 bucks and I burn 6L ($18) of fuel to get it . Boat et all cost me 6k,and if you allow say $500 for rods, fishfinder etc I only have to have 13 such trips and I am on top , TBH I probly have only just got there as some trips we got only 1 or 2 kg .
Im sure the outcome is dependant on the effort put in .......and fishing at the supermarket is easier but their idea of fresh is 5-6 days and the 1st day doesnt see much refrigeration . 🙂

I can't go out on the beach for the morning without dropping $40 (ice, bait and beverage) at the local B&T on the way out......lol

Your fish prices are crazy.

Striped Bass fillets at the local fish market are ~$20 per kg.
Possession is one fish per person per day.
Figure 5-6 Kg. of fillets per day- $100 - $120

Expenses (fuel, beverage and ice) for a day of inshore trolling runs me roughly $200 plus misc. tackle and hardware expenses.

I'm $80 in the hole if everything goes well......lol

Yeah , ok , blue cod is 70 bucks a kg but that premium fish here . You can get other fresh fish for a bit over half that .
Everything here in NZ is stupid expensive.

Son in Law got me a jaw Jacker auto hook setter. I plan on using it for pike using sucker minnows with a quick strike twin treble harness and medium sucker minnows. New laws in Minnesota allows their use and because of the quick hook strike the bait does not get swallowed so the MN DNR changed the maximum distance from the bait to 200' I have wifi notification incase I get too interested in watching football. I am ice fishing from my couch. I can get off the couch grab a sled off the patio slide down to the lake reel in the fish take out the back strap then watch the eagles come for the rest.

Interesting……trebles are a no-no around here. Must use circle hooks when fishing live bait.

Any pike I ever caught hammered the bait no need to really set the hook, they took care of it themselves. Granted I don’t use live bait, probably a different game. Need to look up jaw jacker.

Looked it up. I see it’s Ice fishing. Interesting.
