No power

I have a 140/3.0 mercruiser engine rebuilted , new carb ,alternator ran fine until alternator belt broke I ran it back to dock n felt a loss of power changed fuel filters n hose still no power rpm's won't go pass 26-2800 can anyone help !

Did you recharge the battery? Low volts will cause weak spark, and a subsequent loss of power...

Yes I recharged the battery but still the same rmp's still won't go pass 28

My alternator belt broke off when I was in the water so I ddnt have my tools with so I drive boat to the docks to put it on trailer while I was driving boat back I felt a loss of power so I figured the battery ran low since it ddnt have a belt so I recharged it took it back out and it's still the same even changed fuel filter to separator n fuel pump n still no luck.

All you've told us is it's a 140/3 litre... That could be anywhere from 1968 to current... At a guess, if it has points and you ran with a low battery you could have damaged the points, condensor or coil... (to get the same electrical power with a lower voltage requires higher current, and current is what burns things!)

Did you replace the belt? How long did you charge the battery?
The fact that without the alternator it started loosing power sounds like the battery is no good, and won't hold a charge. Might want to get it recharged and load tested while you find out your engine details and what type ignition system you have.

Sorry about my writing just noticed it. I have a 84 mercruiser 140hp /3.0L I charged battery for 1hr boat starts but have to throttle a lil to get it on . I will my mechanic check the points , he also was telling me the carb must of gotten dirt in it he will have to take it apart n clean also run a fuel pressure test . Didnt think I would have trouble with a rebuilt block , new carb ,alternator , points ,plugs , wires , fuel filters.

1 hr is nowhere near enough time to charge a battery... Overnight AT LEAST!!!

You think it could be the battery not charged enough ? I charged it for about 1 hr while putting on belt so after the hr I started boat since it started I thought battery was charged enough. Didn't think battery had anything to do with power loss.

I don't know if there was enough charge in the battery, but running with a low battery may have caused something to fail (read my previous post regarding voltage and current).. You may have some diagnostic work to do... I seriously doubt it's a fuel problem, but something bought on by reduced battery voltage.

That's what I was thinking, the tank , the guy I bought the boat off of redone the floor , n ddnt do a compartment to get to the tank might have to take the floor apart.
