Re: NFL - Week 3

25 minutes ago the NFL released a statement saying that pass interference on Tate should have been called and the game should have been over. They also pointed out that "joint control" in the endzone can be, and was reviewed. They didn't have enough video proof to overturn the call.

As a non-interested party, it was a tough call. Sure the defender has two hands on it all the time, but Tate's one hand was there at the beginning, and his second hand got there a split second later. It didn't really look like joint possession to me at first, but if Tate didn't also have possesion of it, why wasn't the defender able to rip it out of his hands as he turned, tucked and fell to the ground? That proves to me that Tate had a pretty strong grip on it the whole time. "Joint Possession"?

Chiefs won, that was nice. (Rare thing now-a-days) And Jamaal Charles looked like his old self, so in Chiefs nation (even as bad as the officiating was in our game and around the league) all is well for now.

The only reason he was able to get his hands on the ball is because Jennings caught it. On the video you can see where Tate's right hand came off both the ball and Jennings on the way down. The reason Jennings couldn't rip the ball away when on the ground is because Tate was holding his arm and essentially bear hugging him. I wouldn't say Tate had a grip on the ball as much as he had a grip on Jennings.

As a Pack fan I must say, regardless, he should have batted the ball over his head and out of the endzone, or straight down, instead of trying to look cool with an interception. There were enough interesting calls in the game that refs would be blamed no matter who won

I think that it is pretty obvious who had control of the ball. Unless of course, you are a blind zebra.

I think Jennings wishes he had done the same thing this morning. Its just natural to want to catch it I bet.

I don't know that he'd wish to have done the same thing but I fully agree it would be tough to stop and think, "oh yeah, I should sweep this over my head." Instinct is tough to overcome. Didn't see it but I heard that in the Detroit/Bears game a player tried to bat one down and it landed in the Bears hands.

In the Bears game, the Rams receiver tried to bat a bad pass that went up not down. That's how the interception happened. I was reading that the replacement refs were fired refs from the lingerie league.

Nope, he made the right play. It was just last week in the Lions' game where the defender "batted" the ball down, right into the offensive player's hand, in the endzone, for the touchdown. Going up high for the INT was the right play. And he made the catch. He just couldn't rip the ball away from Tate, who was on his back.

Apparently, 3 refs that used to work for the Pac-12 and were released for poor performance are being used as NFL replacement refs.

Word on the street is, we "may" get the regular refs back for this Sunday. Forget about Thursday. Then we can complain about the bad calls the regulars make. At least they seem to get "most" of the obvious ones right....

Thank goodness I didn't have to ban watching football. The deal is done and the regulars are coming back for the thursday night game.

No we can complain about all the calls the regular refs get wrong! Not to mention the Replay Refs (who REALLY messed up Monday night), who have been the regular guys all along.
