ok, i have an 89 chapparal cruiser that is lacking on the looks side. i have sanded, buffed, and polished til i'm sick of it!! i'm ready to paint!!

here's the deal...i own/run a body shop so access to automotive paint is the easy part...my questions are will the auto. clear coat hold up underwater as the boat will be spending its time in a slip? also will the algae also build up on the clear coat as it does the gel coat?

thanks guys!

It doesn't matter what kind of paint you put on, if it will spend anytime in a slip it will need "anti-fouling" paint on the underside of your hull and your outdrive.
People don't usually clear their outboard or outdrive. below the water-line.
What paint are you using?

Re: newbie with painting questions!!!

honestly wasnt planning on using any "paint", just sanding the gel coat down and clearcoating over that.

what type of "anti-fouling" paint do you reccomend? and will it be sprayable with a hvlp gun? i do not want to use any type of brush or roll on. (just personal preference).

thanks
