Personally, they are an improvement. On the old style, if you accidently started the engine in the full up position, there was a possibility of the bellows getting cut by the u-joints since there was some "squish" to the bellows. Not with the new design.I always use OEM parts on all of the boats I have owned. The new design just stood out to me being so different than any others I have seen.
As you should. Also makes the shift cable last much longer as well.That makes sense. Mine is only in full up when trailering otherwise I always keep it in down position.
