Re: New Boat Review - 2008 Tahoe Q6 SF

Well, he said it is "rated" then that probably means the max speed it should be driven. And, that is only under best case. Speed and weights are often very conseritive by any dealer or manufacturer.

Hey, if you are getting those speeds with your setup, great.

I called my BPS in Grapevine, and he said that they can often get 50 with minimal gear and fuel with the 4.3 MPI....

You have a special boat. I am glad that you have one that is up there and hope I don;t see you on the lake casue you will kick my butt in a run. :D

I think the difference is the dealer took it out a few times and got it all dialed in and adjusted etc. before turning it over to me.

That is great. Enjoy your boat and have fun. When I see a Q6 zooming by, I'll think of you. :D

Re: New Boat Review - 2008 Tahoe Q6 SF

I have a 2001 Taho Q3 s/f with a 2004 MERC. 150 efi, turning a trophy plus four blade vented ss prop. The brochure from Tracker stated the this boat/motor combo was est at 51 to 53 mph. However Mercury had a tech set this package up as it originally had 115 optimax that had issues. With a gps it's been ran as high as 59 mph,in the fall 62 deg and low humidity with two people and fishing gear. Now the worst thing is it will start to chine walk so I keep my hand on trim and use the lanyard switch for safety sake when running fast.

Re: New Boat Review - 2008 Tahoe Q6 SF

I am able to get 50-53 on my Q6 nothing more. All stock except for a great tune up job from the dealer.

When I purchased my Q6 would Run on after shutting it downing, it was also extremely hard to start when cold. After a quick tune up all was great.

Going in for another service this week so hopefully all will be ok. At 50 mph on the dream O meter the boat does seem quite stable. I am impressed with the cost to performance ratio of this boat. Best of all my whole family have really taken to boating, since I have bought this boat. My wife is already looking to upgrade. To me this boat is a great starter boat.

Smart tabs stop the chine walking !

Yep. I am definately wanting to see how you installed the tabs. I have a dol-phin right now and am not real happy with it. But given the price difference, it was the more inexpensive attempt to plane out quicker.

I just found a 2007 q6 with a 4.3 190hp,(205hp) still wrapped in plastic.
-The dealer said the boat will go 41mph
-2007 brochure said 46-49.
I have been trying to find out which one is the more reliable source.
If anyone has a q6 with the 190hp motor could you verify the actual speed you can get with factory 21 prop and what gearing typically comes with an alpha one i have been told its 1.62

Re: New Boat Review - 2008 Tahoe Q6 SF

I have the 2008 Q6 with the 220 MPI and I can run up to 53-55 MPH
(at 2900 GPM) on GPS with my 20" Enertia prop which is exactly what the boat is rated for.

With a 19" Apollo three blade I can run up to 52-54 but it doesn't cruise too well and makes a ton of noise over 50 MPH. It also sucks too much gas.

With a 21" hustler prop I can go over 60 MPH GPS with a full tank of gas and two adults if the water is like glass and it's a really smooth prop. It's not the best for pulling tubes but for running 24 miles to the other end of the lake it's the best.

I usually just go about 40-45 MPH so speed isn't really an issue anymore but it is nice to give it full throttle when some boat tries to run too close and I want to get away from him.

I personally would not get the 190 Carb because you give up too much and
I've heard of too many issues with them needing tune ups and starting etc..

I know it's a little late, like a couple of years, but I couldn't help but notice all the flak your getting about your boat and speeds. I believe ya. I've got a 2006 Tahoe Q6 SF and it does 45-50 easy, loaded, stock with 4.3L carburated V6, 190hp. I was definately interested in the trim tabs you installed, looks good. Need that for mine as it does like to porpoise a bit.

I have a 2005 Tahoe Q6 SF with the 190 Mercruiser IO. I read where someone plowed through the water with the 80 lb smart tabs and changed to the 60lb tabs. Is this the concensus recommendation on the forum for the Q6? My boat is 20 1/2 feet. I'm trying to figure out what I should order.

Yup, same boat length as mine. 60LB tabs work great.

Re: New Boat Review - 2008 Tahoe Q6 SF

I have a hard time believing this as well. The Stingray 195 is the only V6 powered boat I've seen that breaks the 60 MPH barrier. This is backed by tons of publication reviews as well and that fact that I test drove your exact boat when looking. Not saying your lying but something has to be going on with your instrumentation. Isn't it more normal for the speedo's to give a high speed compared to GPS verified speed?

I need to look at the Tahoes again if this accurate.:)

Re: New Boat Review - 2008 Tahoe Q6 SF

What is it with the non Tahoe owners lurking in the Tahoe forums? Just think it's weird they have nothing good to say about Tahoe's. Oh wait, they probably test drove one, once.

With the GPS on the main Stockton deep water channel on Christmas eve with 2 witnesses. 60.2 mph.
If you ever see a red Tahoe with the bimini top down flyin by ya.... just kidding. I'm sure the conditions were right that day. The bimini top acts lake a parachute and a sail. I can definitely feel it in the wind. Had the boat out on Memorial day weekend and with the top up and loaded with passengers was still in the low 50 mph when on the water side by side with my brother-in-law and his V-8 Bayliner. The water was rough in comparison due to the amount of boat traffic on the Lake. I cruise around 30 mph and around 3200 rpm. I can increase speed by trimming the outdrive. Been around boats my entire life and can drive em no problems.

Maybe everyone should take a second look at Tahoe's

A little late to the room but I new on the lake with my 07 Q6. I'm feeling this boat so far but I'd like to improve on the performance a little. I believe it has the 190hp 4.3. I've got the smart tabs (60 lb) on order. What more other than the prop can I do to amp up the sound and performance?

I posted this thread several years ago and still have my Q6 220 MPI and still love it. I haven't had any issues or problems the past two seasons at aLL.

I also don't go more then 35 MPH unless I need to get away from some other idiot who runs up right next ME or in front of me.

For a prop I have kept my 20" Enertia on and I changed it one time last year for one outing and changed it back. For anyone who goes above a 20" or 21" you will not be happy. If you are pulling you will need 19" or less.

For the record the Enertia is not a stainless steel prop it's an alloy.

Here's some more info on it:

The Enertia was the first Mercury propeller to utilize the added strength and durability of Mercury?s X7 alloy, which is 30 percent stronger and four times more durable than conventional steels. X7 allowed Mercury?s propeller engineers to develop a propeller with thinner blades and higher rake angles ? surpassing what is possible with traditional steels.
