Sad thing is . . . I was actually serious. Seemed relevant  When it happened (Taiwanese Shuttlecock incident) there was a thread here. I like to use analogies to put things in context. Basically losing on purpose, or allowing your opponent to score, or allowing a teammate to gain a point to get in the Chase seem similar to me. Not exactly the same, but using the rules (or lack thereof) to help yourself, even when that means laying down. It's not the competitors who are messed up, it is the rules. And I think there is a fine line between cheating and pushing on the edge of the rules. Actually makes it fun. With that said, any NFL fans who are critical of NASCAR changing rules are clearly not paying attention. Whenever I am watching an NFL game and there is a flag thrown, I yell out "Illegal Touching!"

Yeah the illegal touching has me in trouble with the ole lady...

Last week her team the Steelers, Ben gets under center and I yelled ILLEGAL TOUCHING!!

wife didn't cook the whole week, I almost starved....

Anyway I get the analogies bud, but why couldn't you use something more manly for the purpose of maintaining the Manly stereotype that NASCAR embodies....

maybe the...oh never mind I can't get passed the Taiwanese Olympic badminton LOLOL

did you guys know Hockey opens in a month??

OK. I'll use Hockey analogies. Some of you who don't like the Chase, and want things as they were. What about analogies like Helmets? Crease size? Points changes (OT loss)? Etc. All of this stuff is designed to make it more exciting for fans, and hence advertisers (sponsors), and ultimately the league/sport. Isn't that good?

QC - All sports participants use the rule book to gain an edge. Then the rules are changed when the sanctioning body decides the old rule don't fit the spirit of the sport. Laying down goes against the grain because the goal of any sport is to win, even though the laying down is to gain an advantage for overall winning. Sorta like losing a battle to win the war. I understand your point. But badminton - Really. This all in fun!

Now Hockey - Plenty of "legal touching" LOL

The reason I liked the analogy though was they were literally trying to lose at the highest level. Seemed like the ultimate example.

I will never type the word Badminton again except on my death bed, but I reserve the right to use Shuttlecock. Seems like a PC (iboats friendly) way to call somebody a jerk  :D

Did they even televise the qualifying this week? Since Fox took over the speed channel, I have not been able to watch qualifying!

As in "Shuttlecock won the truck race last evening"? Kinda has a nice ring to it. :D

MT - I have no idea what is going on. I didn't have speed and don't have FS1 or 2. I followed Cup qualifying on the nascar.com leaderboard and it was on ESPN2. Tried to see the Nationwide Q-ing, but the site didn't have it today. It should be over by now and can't find it.

Looked at Jayski and Shuttlecock has the N-Wide pole. http://www.jayski.com/nationwide/2013/pdfs/nns-26chi2013lineup.pdf

I guess I'll add one more thing to my continuing nascar rant. Lack of consistent coverage seems to the new nascar way.

New rule. Basically, 100% effort, throughout the race, to finish as high up as possible.

The Shuttlecock Twerp or should that be Twerp Shuttlecock is now 2 for 3 at Chicagoland this weekend. I so hope the Cup guys don't let him sweep.

Re: Nascar Chicago - Chase Race 1 and Breaking News

your only as old as you feel GA, you sound like a pretty young guy to me.

Don't let him fool ya...........

QC and Badminton, who knew!

100% effort? How in the heck is NASCAR going to determine if a team is giving their all or not? What about plate races where teams sit in the back and ride around? That's not giving 100%. What about fuel mileage races and teams are running 3/4 throttle, being passed by other teams just to make it to the finish. That's not giving 100%. What about the start and parks each week? That's not.............. Do we fine and penalize all these teams? Will NASCAR assign one member to watch each of the 43 cars to see if they're giving 100%? I think all this does is open up another can of worms..... Maybe some drivers will be yelling at their spotter telling them so and so isn't giving 100%. No more letting your teammate take the lead to get a bonus point? IDK, sounds like a real mess to me.......

The Chase. I guess I've warmed up to it. Beats having someone winning the championship with 3 or more races to go because they're so far ahead in points....

Now my rant is over............................. for today........... I'll bet with these new rules there will be controversy during the final 10 races and I'll have to rant again..... :)

O'yeah, Shrubby wins, again....
