Great news!

Glad the dealer and Starcraft stepped up to make everything right. Number it, splash it, fish it.

Enjoy

very pretty boat! I can see why you bought it! I am impressed with the solution to this problem, both the dealer and starcraft stepping up like they did, even though the early indications were bleak. That looks like a real fun boat, post a thread with some on the water pics. Have fun

ya im still confused about the whole discount, no warrenty, wait it was a mistake it has a warrenty, we'll send decals and paint thing. lol. sounds fishy but any ways. glad your getting a pleasing resolution to your ordeal. i think they knew you had them and maybe they were on the phone between dealer/starcraft hashing out who was responsible. or maybe trying to stall and you didnt give up. anyways get it on paper then go have fun.

The next update will be some pics of this boats first splash. But it has snowed since and now its raining with 70kmh winds.
I am hoping this week it finally warm up enough that I can get some equipment on board and then run the engine on muffs before heading to the water.
It is barely above freezing so I can't glue the transducer mount to the transom.

Re: My new boat nightmare.....

I stumbled across this thread on a search.

First, glad to hear you got everything sorted out.

Second, nice to see another Saskatchewonian on the forum. If you live near Regina and need any help catching fish, let me know! ;)

Re: My new boat nightmare.....

My boat has caught more fish than Captain Highliner! But any tips on Last Mountain lake are always appreciated as its a tough lake to fish except for the last week which included a 10lb Walleye and a string of 4-5 lb wallys and jumbo Perch.
I am draining the oil right now as I just got back and the motor is still warm. Then its winterize this week and I need to see exactly how its getting back to where it was made.
I have been in contact with the company and I have been advised to wrap it. Normally I would not wrap as I store it inside during the winter. But nobody in Regina wraps boats. So I have no idea what they are going to do as they will not be taking the trailer.
I don't feel I should be paying for a wrap anyway as this is a transport thing and is yet another $300-$400 out of my pocket.

They should replace the boat. Don't be naive and think they didn't know they purchased the boat at an "advantageous price" because of the damage. They got caught, and should step up like people of character. If they don't replace it, start by paying an attorney $150 to send the dealer a letter--threatening legal action.

Someone mentioned a $90 million judgment in Alabama on a Mercedes with a repainted fender. That's a wisetail.

I retired from a major auto manufacturer, and two insurance adjusters sat next to my desk. Automobiles are damaged every day in shipment, and auto manufacturers are self insured. They'll fix'em if repairs are just minor, and dealers will buy them at a discount at closed dealer auctions--admitting to the repairs. They often crunch a perfectly nice car with relatively small damages--and take movies of the demolition.

There are also mobile dentless repair operators and scratch repair guys going from dealership to dealership. They repair bumper covers with bondo, and paint them to factory specs on the back lot of dealerships. You'd be surprised what they can do to a dent.

People here have used shrinkwrap and it was a DIY project. I am a fan of building a tent type structure (with good ventilation) and using multiple tarps. Maybe you can just wrap it for shipment with multiple tarps and rope.

My brother has offered to help me with this exact idea.
He is certain that with some blankets and a couple $20 tarps and rope he could secure the boat inside and it won't get scratched or wet. He shipped his 70k inboard wake boat just like this. But they are taking it off the trailer and this will complicate things.

Not a wive's tale at all.....http://www.appellate.net/articles/pundam799.asp#r1

While ultimately the case was overturned on appeal, it cost BMW lots of $$$$ and some of their reputation. Neither of which I'd say a boat manufacturer (maybe except Brunswick) could weather.

Re: My new boat nightmare.....

Are they going to repaint the entire boat? If so, are they planning on taking off all the thru hull fittings and trim...etc or are they just going to mask them off?

Re: My new boat nightmare.....

I hope to take the wrapped boat to a local dealer tomorrow as they are getting a shipment of pontoons or some other boat that Starcraft or Smokercraft is involved with. Either way its an emtpy backhaul.
I wish I could have got the leaky the trim cylinder fitting fixed while I was waiting but, oh well. This dealer does not want my boat on his property while the shipment is arriving so I really have no idea how I am supposed to sort this out.
But they are going to do me a special favour and fix the trim cylinder when the boat returns as they are a Mercruiser dealer. Tired of this oily mess on the driveway.

I've asked this and I've yet to hear a response. With the amount of corrosion involved it pretty much means stripping and painting the entire hull.

Re: My new boat nightmare.....Resolved!

Update.
I received a pic today and a note saying the repaint is done and looks good.
Decals are newer style and I guess I'll have the only 2011 Islander 221 with newer decals. Maybe people will think I got a new boat?
I don't know how picky I should be with the bottom of the hull. I'm a former bodyman and I know that blending paints is part of the business.
My thoughts are this. If the black is good, and the obvious bubbling paint has been removed and repainted I am willing to accept blending on the bottom. That won't be noticable the first time its beached on the sand anyway. I'm also getting a new bimini as the original had some mildew stains. I'm exited to get my boat back.
The only downer is the trim cylinder that is leaking badly. I hope the drive is tied up. I need to get that fixed asap when it returns.
Here is what she looks like now.

I like the new graphics compared to the original. I thought 2010 was the last year for the Islander.

I was just thinking about you today and wondering how things were going. Very very nice, I sure hope when it gets your dealer ever thing is like it should be.
