Re: My new boat nightmare.....Resolved!

I thought that also but this boat is titled as a 2011. The title reads 2011 and the plate on the boat reads 2011 as well.
There are very few 2011's and I believe these were the end of the line for the Islander series.

Looks great from here rico! I'm sure you'll be itchin to get that boat back for summer fun!

Hey, can't they work through that trim cylinder while it's there at the dealer?

(Edit: Ah sorry, this is at the factory not at the dealer huh...)

Re: My new boat nightmare.....Resolved!

Tomorrow I am bringing it home. The local dealer called today and said it was ready. They had to replace another leaking trim line but it was done under warranty.
I have to say I am nervous about what this boat is going to look like. Hopefully things will be up to industry standards.
I wish I didn't know anything about paint, as maybe I will be overly critical compared to someone who doesn't paint. I think they ordered a brand new bimini as the old one had a mildew stain. I had a quick look the other day but it is completely wrapped.

Re: My new boat nightmare.....Resolved!

The factory should make it look better than production. I bought a new Thompson ProFisherman in '93. During the 1st season it developed 2 stress cracks on the hull near the bow. The company was sold to an individual. At 1st he did not wish to honor the warranty and legally did not have to. After explaining I would get the word out that Thompson no longer honored warranty and were prone to stress cracks due to a structure defect the owner decided to take the boat back and repair it. I made a pencil trace of the HIN. Comparing it when it was returned I would bet a new hull was made with the old number. Fantastic boat. Used it to charter for years. Glad you are happy with what you are being told. It will be treated special- off the line- at the factory. I'm betting it will be one of the best ever produced when you get it back.

I'm so happy to hear that you've finally got this issue resolved and that you'll be back on the water soon.

Enjoy! And, it's supposed to be a nice weekend, so..... pics of it on the water? :)

Here it is.

But when I cut the wrap off I could see some marks in and through the paint. Looks like it was laying on its side during transport?

These are deep enough to go through the new paint.

Re: My new boat nightmare.....Resolved!

I spent about 7 hours with my buffer and various compounds and a bit of wet sanding to get it looking respectable. Can't say I am pleased about the trucking. The factory strips and paints the hull then some trucker undoes all their hard work. It's pretty good but I can't say that I wish it wasn't this way. On the bright side the missing rivets are no longer missing and the bad spots and peeling paint are all gone. There are some sanding marks from a wheel around some of the rivets but it's a boat, not a show car.

Also, the factory installed a new stereo. It seems like a nicer unit than what was in there. Why it's here I do not know.

The curtains and door covers are now attached. The snaps were missing when I received the boat and I wondered why. I guess I know why now. Now I can nap in the shade!

The drive has some tool marks. It definately been removed. As long as its been installed right I don't care about the tool marks at this point. I will mark it plenty when I remove it.

This was the area with the runs and its looks good now.

And I got to get my new cover on asap.
