Lookin' good, CC.

Why would marine cleats be marked L & R?

Thanks!

yeah those markings cracked me up! At least mark them P-ort & S-tarboard amiright!?!

The way I understand skene cleat mounting, you want the opening to be perpendicular to the rope direction so that if you get slack, it can't easily bounce out.

idk, maybe I'm wrong but I went with my intuition.

ideally they'd be forward more (probably to the edge of the rub rail) however they'd obscure the nav light.

I'm OK with the rope rubbing on the aluminum trim.

Nice work for sure, glad to see you taking advantage of the virus time to get the finishing touches knocked out.

Bow chocks, bow line skenes, skene bow chocks

The way those chocks work on my Chief is cleat at the center of the bow cover and a chock on either side. Not sure how they'll work where you have them?

thanks!

nice to see the chief making a cameo!

The way you have them is for docking (and they're in the proper orientation I might add).

Mine are strictly for anchoring in river current...big richter off of the bow and then I toss a bucket anchor off of stern (poor man's drift sock).

SG, please start a thread on your Islander. I want to see what you found and did, or are doing. I have an 86 Islander that I need to start on a trailer with failed undercarriage.
Cheers

The pooch (Max) in my avi spent about 8 days in the animal hospital so time & resto cash has been in short supply.

He was suffering from severe diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) on top of a nasty case of pancreatitus. He's doing great now that we know he's diabetic. He's actually healthier now than he has been in quite some time. The docs want to keep his feeding tube in for a few more weeks just in case he relapses.

I did manage to get some trailer work completed.

Suspension gobbed up with fluid film and i'm "painting" everything else with Amsoil Metal Protectant HD (gets a gold hue)

Hardware for the guide bunks:

and finally the raised chrome decal which matches the polish.

Now we just need to get this thing registered (probably by mail) now that the DMV is starting to thaw out.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :yo:

Thanks Rob! Soooo close. DMV is my #1 obstacle since I need to register in person...although it looks like they'll allow registration by mail now that my area of NY is going into Phase3 of reopening. :thumb:

Get well Max! You've been waiting a long time for a boat ride.

Man GaB...that exact thought of that crossed my mind when we 1st admitted him and I was out working on the rig!

He had 2 feet in the grave...if we didn't admit him that night he would've passed.

Now he's back to chasing squirrels ...and the neighbor's 20lb cat

Max is still off his feed if he can't catch a 20 pound fat cat. Good boy, Max - Git'r dun!

CC - So just waiting for state numbers to make a legal splash?

For a big boy, Percy is pretty light on his toes

Correct; the registrations expired in 2016 so I need to re-register in person...or take a shot at this mail-in registration although I'm nervous putting my old registration card in there for fear of it getting lost in the shuffle!

If you were redoing a glasser, the PPE would make a trip to the tag office safe.

Have you called or emailed? Saw this on the DMV website, you are in NY, aren't you? In one of the "good" counties (Albany) with drop boxes? I would make a copy of anything sent or dropped off in case a mail truck drives off a cliff or a drop box explodes - Ya never know! [h=3]DMV offices[/h]
Beginning on June 1, state-run DMV offices in the counties of Albany, Onondaga, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, and the five boroughs of New York City will begin to process registrations and other transactions by mail, and beginning June 4, will accept transactions through secure drop boxes located at each office. County Clerks that operate DMV offices in the remaining 51 counties of the State are advised to follow the State DMV’s timeline and guidance for reopening. For more information about services offered at county-operated offices visit our Offices page. Many other transactions are available online.

As regions enter phase 3 of reopening, DMV will offer limited in-person transactions in state-run DMV offices by reservation only, prioritizing critical services, and will resume all other road tests at that time. Until then, there will be no in-person transactions in any DMV office and reservations will only become available as regions enter phase 3.

I'm in Albany county and we entered Phase3 today!

I'll see if I can get a in-person reservation.

Good timing too....Fafoooom!

We're getting a new driveway in 2 weeks and I didn't want to slop it up with 2-stroke exhaust sludge

After a 7 year hiatus, she popped right to life (after getting a stuck primer bulb issue sorted out). No fuel or water leaks, power-head stayed cool and strong pee-stream (we tapped a port into the cylinder head).

Steady idle at 1400 however the charging circuit (no regulator) is already cranking out 15vdc.

The only things being powered off of the cranking battery are the fuel gauge and instruments/lights.

You're supposed to bust a bottle of champagne over the bow, not pee in the driveway!

Keep an eye on the voltmeter. If it goes over much 15 volts while cranking her up the lake, the battery may boil. Keep it filled up or get a cheap reg/rect off Ebay.

I think this is the first time I've seen the motor run. Good lookin' dash, CC. Phase III means you can splash?

I quit the sauce 5 years ago... I'll shutgun a can of Busch NA at the ramp

On the voltage, It's going to be proportional to RPM...guarantee. I'd be surprised if it doesn't peg my dash voltmeter. I'll look into adding a regulator (have you seen it done here?) I don't want to mess up this old school CDI ignition.

I believe i posted a video way back through PBucket however they were already limiting bandwidth... so this was yesterday. :yo:

Nice having the 2 smoker popping away, sounds healthy to my tuned You Tube ear ;)

On the voltage, yes very common and I had to do the swap from rectifier to regulator because my 79 140 Merc was pegging the volt gauge on my starting batt too.

Because they were so inexpensive I ordered 2 of them just in case and used some CPU thermal paste between the mounting surfaces. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019DHPMEY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The volts may be limited by how how much juice the stator can make. You have one of the powerful and new Johnny-Rudes and probably put out more than the weak 9 amp stator in my Merc.

I put a Radio Shack rectifier in when there where still RS stores around and over the winter, got a reg/rect off Ebay and still have to put it in. Between the two pieces I have about 15 bucks wrapped up, Merc NLA parts are too expensive and still almost 60 years old. I don't have a regulator and have to watch the battery water/acid level - gotta put the reg/rect in and put the RS rectifier in the spares box.

There are some threads about adding a regulator from a snowmobile, motor cycle or Ebay special. Some also about upgrading to a CDI unit. A quick and dirty forum search - https://forums.iboats.com/search?q=adding regulator&searchJSON={"keywords":"adding regulator"}

You get her registered yet?

Here's some possibly useful info on wiring it up as far as the stator connections. The B post not so much, mine was red.

Thanks Agua! 15A is almost triple what my alternator generates at 5k RPM; plenty of margin and worth a shot esp at 17 bucks!

According to the service manual, the output on this alternator is only 6A at WOT.

Yeah I sure miss having a RS to play with parts. eBay/Zon or mouser aren't too bad if you're patient.

Ha, i haven't...maybe I'll call them over lunch today and see if i can get an in-person appt!
