Anyways, I'm currently stranded with a busted brake-line in Pennsylvania (about 200 miles away from home) and consequently have alot of time to contemplate how to proceed with this project

Maybe we should start making our own steel again in the US.

Must be beat on GM week. I've had rusted brake lines on Ford and Dodge trucks too. It really sucks, to bend and flare the tubing to repair, but its a relatively cheap diy fix.

Yep thats the hub from the last fiasco I really would love to meet up with him again. He swore up and down to me that he just repacked the bearings. What really peeved me was he saw my baby was with me

What really peeves me about the gm thing what happens when someone is towung a 6000 lb boat when the hydraulic pressure goes away. Id slap an engineer

You need to inspect and maintain your brakes including the lines . And like I posted its happened to me on a ford and Dodge truck and I now Iisnpect my whole brake system everytime I change the oil. Maybe we should slap the vehicle owners just like the guy who didn't maintain those trailer bearings

That's great practice...and will now be part of my PM schedule. The replacement kits are Stainless...if they installed the 350$ SS kits in the 1st place, they wouldn't need to discount customers $1350 per visit. :nerd:

Hey fellas, a little mid-weekend update. Sometimes I like to pretend that I'm in the assembly stage and do things like...

...finishing patching-up holes in the bow-cap:

...and rough-cutting the marine ply for the transom:

^^^ I'll trim it to size with the proper transom angle once laminated

As I wait for the brown truck to arrive with my epoxy & cabosil for laminating, I'll chip-away on the trailer (perhaps even something picture-worthy this evening :D ) I had to cancel the axle order...for some reason they insisted on a 2000# axle/spindle...so I'm back to square one. I'm going to give the folks that provided my undercarriage a call this week to see if they can build a 3500# axle & fit it with the right slipper springs for the undercarriage.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :yo:

Looks great, you might consider gorilla glue for the transom, then no waiting for the brown truck. You'll be able to use the epoxy & etc elsewhere.

Did they say why they wanted to sell you a 2000# axle and not a 3500#?

Yeah JB, I'm seriously considering it. It could easily be 2 qts between priming & laminating.

Some excuse about the axle hitting the frame despite mounting the axle under the spring; The top of the axle has the same proximity to the frame regardless of its diameter. :nerd:

You can't beat the power of poly glue, I've used both the Gorilla and the titebond and that stuff is amazing! 1 bottle will be enough to glue up your little transom since you already cut it down. ($10.00). Transom angle for the I/Os is 15 degrees but I don't know if that transfers to the OBs as well.

Trailer work, yeah you have my condolences. I'm sick of my trailer, but I did just get done shooting some paint on it!

Thanks for stoppin' by agua! Ha, with the exception of making a few measurements, I didn't work on the trailer afterall

After coughing-up nearly a Benjamin on a sheet of marine PLY...only the best for her! Plus, I enjoy the process...as well as the smell :D

i also like the idea of tite bond 3 for glueing transom pieces together, does an excellent job and cheaper. put plenty on each piece and spread evenly with a brush or trole or troll? also a nice way to trim up your transom edges that i used was to drop it in place and use a belt sander to match up with the transom skin. worked well for me. my 2 cents after being there. good luck

that's the original axle/suspension :) The only horizon that it will see is the one at the scrap yard
