If you want to keep the "Natural Wood" look here is what you do. Coat the woad with epoxy first. Then use a HIGH QUALITY, Marine Varnish that has UV protection. Epiphanes Is one of the best. Two or Three coats and you're good to go. You will need to re-apply the varnish about every three or four years depending on how much use the boat gets and how much exposure to the elements. If you want a bit of a Non-Skid surface sprinkle some sand on the next to last coat when its wet Then put the last coat over that.

Ok... To recap, stain the wood, seal it with some kind of epoxy and then varnish over the epoxy? Sounds easy enough. When you all are talking about epoxy, are you referring to any particular type or just regular old epoxy?
