Re: my 14' tom boy project

Check with your local body shops and marine repair guys and see where they get their supplies. BUT... I think you're gunna find that this boat repair stuff, when done correctly is NOT the cheapest thing to do. A typical Stringer, Transom Deck repair with Resin, Glass and Wood will run no Less than $750 and usually about $1,000 bucks. But where are you going to buy a ROCK solid boat for THAT!!!!

Re: my 14' tom boy project

Yea as of right now im going to do it in phases as I get the extra cash like transom first then stringers last floor and floating foam im ready to get started after a little more reading. Another question I do have is when cutting the transom do I beval cut the bottom where it meets the hull or just square cut and fill with epoxy.

Either way... I usually don't bother the resin squeeze out and filleting PB takes care of it for me. You're gunna be within a 1/2" or less, I HOPE!!!!

This may be a silly question but i'm new i know what filleting is but what is filleting PB mean. Oh yea and since i was going to be taking this project SLOW i did some extra bracing for the hull

Re: my 14' tom boy project

PB is Peanut Butter. That is Resin mixed with Cabosil, and 1/4" Chopped Glass Fibers to the consistency of Peanut Butter. It is used to create a coved joint around the edges which makes it easier for the glass to go around the corners.

Not sure I know what you mean by Bracing the hull? You mean on the outside so it won't flex?

Yes the outside i had a few but wanted to add some more once i got the rest of the deck cut out i thought it needed more braces. I was looking up some prices on fiberglasssite.com and the cabosil they say is for epoxy resins is there something else i should use for poly resins

If you didn't know or wasn't aware of it, this has got to be one of the top rebuild folks on the forum. Here is the link to his page, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=454460. He has got all of to on video and pics. Lots of great stuff, just look at the page views and it should tell you something. Just an FYI, good luck in your project.

Depends on what kind of respirator you have.

The Respirator you have is fine.

Nope, You use Peanut Butter (Thickened Resin). Check the link in my Signature below. It has all the details and drawings on how to do it.
You'll need to make some clamps too.

Re: my 14' tom boy project

You use Cabosil and Chopped Milled 1/4" fibers to make your peanut butter. You'll need about 10 qts of Cabosil and 2 lbs of milled fibers. You'll need at least 10 gallons of resin.
