Motor stalls in neutral

OK after replacing the fuel pump, filter, switch box, and regulator / rectifier the stator is bad. Test open to ground on the low and high speed coils. I'll replace it next week. What makes them go bad? It's only 3 or 4 years old. (CDI).

Well----OPEN to ground sounds like it is a good stator.-----Revisit your test procedure / specifications.

Jerry, I'm getting conflicting part numbers.
Marine Engine dot com calls for 174-8778K 1 a 9 amp stator
CDI calls for 174-9710K 1 a 16 amp part.
Which is correct?
Serial number is: 0E097208

174-9710K 1 a 16 amp is the one I'd buy.
The Marine Engine one says don't use with bolted magnets.
What flywheel do you have?

I think you're right. I'd trust CDI over Marine Engine. I have the glued magnets.

I replaced the stator and still no start
I give up and take it to the shop. I did notice I did not connect the two red wires from the R/R to solenoid when I replaced it.

Yes , sometimes the shop can save you a lot of beer tokens.

You are lucky you have a shop that will even look at an old Force or Chrysler....

Got a mobile marine guy to look at it. He says 1 and 3 carbs have problems but will rebuild all three.
