Picked up this 92 Mariah 4.3/AlphaOne Gen2 last weekend and I'm going over everything, top to bottom.
New exhaust manifolds, starter, Edelbrock carb, tuneup parts, gimble/bellows kit, water pump, etc...
I just noticed that I havent been able to find the oil bottle for the drive unit. Am I missing something ? is it hidden somewhere ?
My Chaparral 5.7 has it mounted to the front of the starboard cylinder head.
If I can't locate this thing, I may need to hit ebay for a used setup.

Some older ones never had them. Is the drive/gimble ring have the tube/valve for a line? If not you don't need it.

So just fill the lower unit until the oil comes out the upper plug and call it good ?
I didn't see any random hoses floating around the motor compartment... so yeah... maybe it never had one.
I did lookup the serial number on the mercruiser parts site and it shows two different bottles available... one round, one square... but no mention of "none" equipped.

I'll have a better look at it this weekend when I pull the drive off.

Yup you trim the drive down so its level, put oil in the lower plug till it comes out the top. Quickly stick the bottom plug in after you install the top one. Use new gaskets at every change. I prefer the paper gaskets, I've seen a few of them yellow ones leak a bit. Also when draining and filling make sure the old gasket isn't stuck in the hole. Then it will leak.

A big No-No is that plastic inline fuel filter with rubber hose on the pressure side of the pump

Yeah, some of the early gen II's didn't have it. Mine didn't, but I added it with a quicksilver kit. See pic, if it has a plug here it doesn't have it, if it's a nipple then you need the hose and bottle. Good Luck !Inked20210401_190653 (1024x1024)_LI.jpg

That's not an Edelbrock carb, it's a Rochester Quadrajet....

Probably doesn't matter much, but the mercruiser manual is pretty specific, lower unit should be tilted up to the top of the trim stop, not flat.

NO! Down, and level... NEVER UP... (The Merc manual is very specific about that!)

Thanks for all the replies !
Yes, it WAS a quadrajet but was dumping fuel pretty badly and was missing the choke Tstat and linkage.
I was never a fan of them and have had fantastic luck with the Edelbrock on my other boat... so I opted to convert over to an edelbrock on the 4.3. All I had to do was rebuild a used ebay carb I got for $130 and install the edelbrock V6 tuning kit. (jets/metering rods)
Im still waiting for exhaust manifolds and a bunch of other parts to arrive before I can start it.
I should have it water-ready in a few weeks.
Wife is not happy about a 2nd boat in the driveway so I need to slow-roll the repairs under her radar. lol

Yeah , I have 5 boats in the backyard at the moment. Also the duck boat at the cabin. And the one I'm restoring at the shop. She don't say much but I suppose it won't be long.....
