And I'm sure most of you know my opinion as well. I'm agin it. :) I think Oz's info that he goes by is just propaganda from people that share his views.
I won't belabour the point however, BTDT.

Mayfloat, the Indian’s smoked tobacco in their peace pipe, not pot. But it's a nice thought anyways...
:)

I can back up everything I say with facts and studies from unbiased sources. You cannot.

If you think this is a good idea do some research on the effect this has had on the people of the Netherlands. ;)

Ok. Oz, I'll let it go at that. I don't want to be involved in another million page debate that takes hours just to verify that I'm not slightly misquoting someone somwhere so I can be labelled as someone who twists words and on and on, like the last thread related to this.

Something bad is going on here. This is twice I agree with TXS. Legalize it and tax it. as a former LEO I seen that the W-O-D doesn't work. I also know of many people that smoked pot and it did not negitivily affect them. I'm all for it being legal.

I'm with JB. The detection factor has to be dealt with.

Hemp, the female plant, has wonderful qualities.

I'm for legalization, if we can ACCURATELY detect those impaired.

That's the problem, it's more or less impossible to tell if someone is high right now, or they smoked a week ago and the effects are completely worn off. Pee and blood tests show positive about a month after use.

Also, female plants are the ones that produce the flowers that people smoke. ;) Hemp is a completely different strain of marijuana, which has had most of the THC bred out of it.

I'm not at all surprised. Perhaps you should change you handle to: "thereefer".

ZMOz wrote:

I agree, that's why it is such a delicate issue.

I stand-corrected-on the plant gender. Seems right that the women would cause the problem. ;) :p :D

Ladyfish is going to kill me. ;)

Re: Marijuana-legalize and tax

I have only one reply. I am a teacher in Texas and during first and second period class it is clear as to who toked up before school. They are the ones with the dazed and confussed looks, and have nothing positive or intelligent to add to any class discussions. Usually the most you can get out of them is "yea, whatever." I'm not going to argue it's longterm effects on the body,I'm not a doctor, but I can tell you first hand that the kids that do "use" hang out with those that also use which is not the crowd I wanted my kids to hang out with. That crowd always seem to be in more trouble, which in turn leads them down the wrong path. It's not always the drug that leads them down that path; it's the peer presure that they are surrounded with in that group that causes the bad decisions. Get them away from that group and you have gone a long way to getting your kid squared away. Most of the kids that use don't have that drive to achieve and go on to college. They want to get some little job and continue to hang out with their buddies and just "chill."

Did I smoke when I was in high school? Yes I did, and it did put me in that group so I can see it from both sides. Been there, got the t-shirt. I did just as the kids want to do now. Get that little job, just get by and "chill" with my buddies. I was 38 before going to college. I blame that on what I did, and who I hung out with. I think of all the time lost and it's a shame. I look at the teachers, as well as others who went to school when they were younger, they are so much better off, not just economically, but socially. I just don't think legalizing it will decrease the use; it will increase because it will make it easier for the kids to get. Face it, kids don't make good decisions, it's our jobs as adults to make the right decisions. The ones that's best for them. I will get off my soap box now; sorry for the long post.

Re: Marijuana-legalize and tax

It's interesting to note, if you believe the drug use statistics published by the white house, at least 27,000 iboats members have used marijuana sometime in their life, nearly 7,500 have used it in the last year, and over 4,000 have used it in the last month. Probably more than that since most members are males and more males smoke it than females.

Re: Marijuana-legalize and tax

Interesting topic.
Simple possession is rarely punishable here.
Cultivation for the purpose of trafficking is a
fine or a short sentence rarely involving any
length of time served.
It is not addictive in the same way alcohol or
prescription drugs are. The body does not
require it to function after long term use.
Its affects wear off as soon as it leaves the
blood stream.
I know a handful of seniors in their 70s that have
suffered no ill effects from many decades of use.

However, when mixed with alcohol it is and can be
a very powerful toxin and can effect speech and
motor skills with more than double the effect of alcohol
alone.
I am against its legalization, for the protection
of minors. Legalization simply sends the wrong
message.
Its use is destructive to young people that
combine it with other drugs especially alcohol.
Today it is like a right of passage and rebellion
for the most vulnerable of society our children.

"Adults" Smoke'm Big Buffalo. :p

Growing or 'manufacturing' will result in losing your property,(house) if that's where you are growing & a jail sentence........Part of the war on drugs, I guess.......The law a'int too lax here......JK

Re: Marijuana-legalize and tax

Legalize it, tax it, regulate it.
The dealewrs will still sell it, the addicts will still buy it. The only difference that will be seen is the "upper class" will be more open about using it. It has gotten so that veyr few courts will prosecute for marijuana possession in user amounts. Here in Nebraska it is a traffic infraction to possess less than an ounce, a $200 fine. Use will increase if it were socially acceptable, but there will still be users and non users. It will just be in the open.
There would be an increase in other problems though, but the plus side more cheetos sold, more cookies sold, more tax dollars coming in etc.

And the "war on drugs" worked the first few years until the restrictions came on. When it was new and big in the news it was great. But then the whining complaining idiots took over. There is and has never been money in it for Law Enforcement. I get kind of tired of hearing how we make so much money on this and that. We are on a line item budget period. There were grants available for drug enforcement, but they were for things like equipment which was badly needed and too costly. Buying equipment does not line any oficers pockets that I know of. The whole drug enforcement took a dive when Clinton was in control. Money went from drug enforcement to domestic violence. Only problem is they didn't pay for anything to help fight domestic violence, they paid millions and millions for radio and TV ads, billboards and other public service announcements.

I smoked my share in high school. That was a long long time ago and a million miles away. I grew out of it, some of my old friends never did.
Legalize it, tax it and regulate it. I will never do it again, I am too old and mature for it now. But for those who like it, go for it.
