No, it won’t hurt it as long as you completed the proper break in procedure. Just make sure you blow the carbon out of it every now and then. Go fish, enjoy your boat.

I would not be impressed with your responses...
OP wants to know if they can operate their engine/ boat. I'm not in charge of their life. If they want to run the engine they can. My best advice based on info provided is to not operate their engine, this will ensure it remains sound. Is that okay?

consensus here is no real issue use it. Yiu may ned up with plug fouling , but that is if you only idle

I just had my 3.7 rebuilt.
The builder also told me not to run at idle speed for very long (during break in period). Use high zink oil and keep above 1800 rpms when running at lower speeds. Also keep alternating speeds, so don't run at same rpm for long periods at a time. (Again, during break in period).
But after breaking period you should be able to run as you please with appropriate maintenance.
Hope this helps

Jake,

if your well past break in and have changed oil, I suggest dropping in pitch to bring the RPM's up just a bit while fishing.

No, that's not OK.
You're not helping with your snide comments.
There's no need for that.

Glad the OP got his answer.
I think he was confused about the mechanic stressing not to idle too much during break-in.
