I pulled my lower unit, A Volvo duo-prop to replace a leaky drive shaft bellows. The gimbal bearing was rusty and growled when I turned it so I pulled it and replaced as well. Now I cannot get my lower unit back on. The bearing is seated. I have checked that. This is my first go at this so any pointers would be appreciated. I can get it as far as the studs just touching the holes but no further.

Put it in gear and rotate the prop shaft to align the splines whilst pushing it in. While it was apart did you do an alignment check of the gimbal bearing, if not then may I suggest you get an alignment bar to make sure.

Check your engine alignment first, that could be binding. Then put drive in gear and rotate the prop shaft to rotate drive shaft slightly while pushing in. May have to slightly lift drive or move from side to side to get everything aligned. Always remember to heavily lube everything up to make it easier to remove next time.
