Re: Lower Susquehanna

My boat isn't done yet. This nice weather is great to work in but makes me feel like I'm behind schedule! Fortunately my dad bought a little 14' tinny in the fall that we can use in the meantime. I'm hoping to get on the water in April. I'll gladly accept rides prior to then :p

I will keep that in mind when I have time to go and no one is around to help launch and retrieve. Plus I would like to get on the river with someone that knows the ropes. We will have to get in touch and swap numbers.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Im having trouble finding someone local too. A bunch online out of state guys but thats it. I put a new prop on mid summer last year and kinda dinged up the edges in september trying to trailer my boat at low tide on the bush river. Heck its hard to even find a local marine dealer/shop any more they are dropping like flies, I know of 5 places that have gone out of buisness locally since october. And the one that is left close to me charges $130 an hour 90 if you bought your boat there... LOL

Gents, I took my prop into long level marina, they sent it out, came back perfect.

I'm in York as well, always looking for people to go out with, as my boat probably won't be done for a year at this rate.

Hoping to be ready by mid apirl early May.

Feel free to PM if you need an extra set of hands.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Hey everyone,
I'm in central Chester County, Coatesville area. New to boating and our first trip was the Sassafras river launched at a friends campground We cruised out to the bay and back then beached for an afternoon of burgers and beers! Our second and final outing for the season was from Havre De Grace, a small public ramp under the railroad trestle to the "Fishing Battery", cruised the flats ( I won't do that again at low tide!) - I gotta learn the hard way sometimes!!! got bound up in grass twice ugh.

Back on point... We are looking for some other spots on the Susq. I google earthed a small ramp very close to the dam... Hoping to try that in a couple of weeks if my ignition parts come in and I get the boat on my "newer" roller trailer.

I'll keep an eye out here and see when others are going and where and maybe invite myself :) More googling the river now that I see some ideas, Wife thinks I'm having an affair! Well I am, with the boat hahaha.

See ya all on the water!!!

That small ramp near the damn(above) is most likely Glen Cove Marina. What size is your craft?

I have the damnest time getting turned around at glen cove marina. You dive to the ramp in forward, then you have a 40 by 40 ft area to turn the trailer around in.

Yeah, no way I'm taking my rig down there.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

The ramp at peach bottom, though steep looking, appears to be more accomodating. We use a super-crappy ramp right upstream from the peach bottom one but it's just up the road from my uncle's place.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

I'm on google earth now and I found Glen Cove. It does look small.. Also went up towards the power plant and it looks like there is a ramp at or on the property (northwestern end).

I found a ramp directly across the river from glen cove. I appears to be under the railroad. I have a 17' Aristocraft with a 60hp Gale motor. I can manage 12 - 18 inches of water if I idle about. I'm gonna go take a look next week before I trailer a boat there.

Was thinking about running out 372 from parkesburg to wrightsville. Anything nice up there? Been out there on the bike once and it looks nice.

Now that you have a better picture of you boat up. Im sure it was you that i beeped at last season..As long as everything works out well with de-winterizing we will start going out mid-end of may, i got a few thing to do on the boat and trailer first. I want to put new carpet in but I think the season will start before i can get that done.. Yes long time no speak, been doing some work on some of my company's investment properties over the winter in Garden city, Sc (Myrtle beach). Alot of work and the weathers cold no time for fun 16 hour days. Going back next week for 5 days and the temps not going to get over 60 and rainy. Of course I cant get sent down when the weather is nice.

Re: Lower Susquehanna

When is it a good time to start hitting the river for fishing? New to river fishing. Temperature? Weather?
How crappy is the water as far as debris?

Re: Lower Susquehanna

Right now I'd imagine it would be brown and FULL of crap.

And same for below the dam, I think they have 16 gates open today!

Check out the discharge graph.

I went over the river Monday morning this week at the York bridge and I could only see 1 rock above the river!!! The water was way up from all the rain. And yes, it was a muddy mess!

When do they generally put the courtesy docks in a Lock 2?

Re: Lower Susquehanna

I don't remember exactly when they put them in last year, but I think it is closer to Memorial Day.

We were down at Lock 2 a couple of nights ago and saw that they had just put in the center platform. The one that divides the 2 lanes. So you can at least launch and retrieve without getting your feet wet. :)

Here is a pic of what I am referring too.
