Re: Lost Power after changing outdrive

I counted again and there are 20 drive gear teeth and 24 driven gear teeth. This is a SE116 gen 2 Driven gear has 91 104 034 last 4 maybe something else it was hard to read.

Sounds like you have the right gear. Put that with the 17-28 lower and you have a 1.98 gear ratio.

You must have been typing while I was posting.

Re: Lost Power after changing outdrive

Is it possible for me to speak to you on the phone Don?
Nope, learned my lesson about that a long time ago.

Did you try trimming the drive up or down when you were running it? You don't trim by looking at the gauge only do you?
Have you tried running it without all the people on board?

No I have not tried it by myself and yes I have tried to trim it up and down while driving it. I am guilty of triming with gauge only.

7 people (plus gear) in a 19 foot boat with only a 3.0L engine for power, it's no wonder it wouldn't go. Have you ever run the boat with that many people in it before?

Now having been painfully reminded of my ignorance,;)

I wonder if the "lower" bolted to that 20/24 "upper" is the correct one for a 1.98:1 drive?

( I should go back to flying airplanes!!!....I am MUCH better at it!)

Yes I have had that many before I changes the drive and it was nothing like this. Froom what I understand the lower unit with an SE116 are interchangable with the top unit and does not matter what the gearing is up top.

The only other lower for those drives would make it a 2.40 he would have to high a WOT rpm.

Why did you replace the drive in the first place?

Re: Lost Power after changing outdrive

The upper unit gear went and made a mess of the drive. Metal found in the lower unit oil when drained so I went with a different unit all together to be safe

Re: Lost Power after changing outdrive
