Re: Lloyd Bentsen

It was my understanding that Marx relied heavily on Darwin as substantiation of his theory. The major difference was Darwin's theory was an evolution while Marx excellerated the process with violent overthrow. But they were in essence the same.

The excess of labor resulting in profit would be the match that would eventually light the fuse. It was imperitive that religion be removed as it was a control mechanism of the rich (bouisouis sp?). The democrats (progressives) insistance of separation of church and state, (theory not law although frequently presented as such) seems to lead one down the path, though not exclusively, that only the weak minded could believe in religion and remain serfs to the rich. This never took hold completely in the Soviet Union although the church's opperated under rigid government supervision.

The new ruling class will become the workers, and the means of production and therefor any profits will be equally distributed across the board. This is consistant with the claims of many that big oil, power, auto, medical, pharmacutical, etc, should be overseen by the government. This is socialistic/communistic in nature and flys in the face of what this country is suppose to be about. But consistant with the axiom, absolute power corrupts abosolutely this format is flawed as well.

China has had a history of thousands of years of capitalism. It doesn't suprise me in the least that they had to modify their newly found communistic government. And to call it communistic is really a stretch as it is really more of a dictatorship which is what all communistic regimes eventually evolve into. In fact it is an unusual hybrid of several theories. But I would stand by the categorization of China as a dictatorship. But Marx believed it would take a highly mechanized society for this to take hold. The more mechanized the more the exploitation of labor is exposed. So we in the states are ripe for communistic ideals to take hold. Based on Marx's theory only.

It seems that recently it is in vogue to separate Marx from communism, but I think they cannot be separated due to the fact that regardless of division of profit, someone has to be in charge. Corruption is rampant regardless of what guise it is wrapped in. There is always a ruling class.

I am inclined to agree with 18Rabbit. Many of the words and programs put forth by "progressives" have class envy at their core. Government managing all the major industries and over regulation of all other industries and taxation without regards for outcomes to those small business owners, or wealthy, and the consistant drumbeat against organized religion. The problem is the world market never really finds its own level. It is in a constant state of entropy. This combined with the complete lack of motivation for success leaves the theory empty in my opinion. It will always find its way to the lowest level. Which leads again to violent overthrow.

Look at the venom for Ken Lay and the empathy for Tookie Williams? It is a result of class envy rather than the greater evil. I am truely uncomfortable with the direction of the democratic party. What ever happened to "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." I just don't know on what platform or level that they recognize individualism. It is always, always some kind of us vs. them they are preaching.

Not intended to be an indictment of anyones beliefs just an explaination of mine.

An interesting treatise Pointer but, perhaps, a bit intellectual for this thread.

Some commit crimes and get away with it, Ken Lay did not and that is good, he wrecked many lives for his own greed.

That right there is the basis for most of the comtempt I hold for the left. Moral equivalency is absolutely non-existent and to me morality is the starting point for all of this stuff. Reminds me of the eyes that roll when I use the word evil, the left is just too dang smart for simple concepts like right and wrong . . . JFK got it, his brother and Jimmy Carter do not.

Yes, there are contemporary Democrats that get it, Lieberman being the most obvious. Very telling how he is quickly turning into an outsider in his own party ;)

And all I wanted to say was I was sad that one I considered a great statesman has died.
