Hi, I am new to iboats but have read alot about what everyone is doing to their boats. I am eighteen and just purchased my first boat not knowing anything. I have a 1992 Bayliner Capri with the infamous 120hp l-drive motor, but for what its worth it took a couple of new parts and runs without a problem at 120psi in each cylinder. I am replacing the floor and need some help. I have pulled the foam and floor and the foam is wet like everyone says in these forums. I am looking at the stringers and they are totally fiberglassed over and hard as a rock, but just wondering if I still should drill into them and look at the wood inside or if there is wood inside of them I do not know. Finally, If I go to home depot or lowes and get pt plywood it should be dry or it should not be dry as I live in a desert and it is very dry. Sorry if these questions were mentioned in other posts I did find the exact answer I was looking for.

Re: Just need some advice

Welcome to iboats. we have a lot of young members. my suggestion, is to buy exterior grade finish on one side, for your deck, not pressure treated. i would cut the wood to fit. then i would put a coat of resin, on the bottom and all the edges. then install the deck, then Glass the deck. you can use FuzzyWigglers method of replacing the foam.

If you decide to go with PT it still has to be dry before the fiberglass will adhere to it. This is the case no matter the environment that you live in. But i agree with TD.. Exterior grade ply should be all you need as long as its correctly encapsulated in fiberglass.
