I have a 97 sugar sand 120hp jet boat never had a problem never used oil. always maintained. was out driving and all of sudden it shut off. I tried to start it and it seems like the battery is dead. took it into the shop and was told it had a blown rod.. I didnt hear or see anything out of the ordinary. Shop already had the quote for me for a new engine. even made the comment that it was the best shape he has ever seen a 11 year old boat.. We dont know if were getting taken for a ride. Marina suggested we put a new engine in it .. IF we do should i buy a used engine.
HELP . We have no idea what to believe.

may i suggest to post this question in the i.o forum....
on this site we have some of the best engine diagnosticians on the planet.
they .....well......they are just really really good.
if you post your question there. they will tell you what you can check your self to see if the marina is lying to you.
but just as a suggestion....drain the iol yourself....and look for peices of metal....if there is big chuncks in the oil......its toast
