QC, yeah that's my canoe. 19.4mph GPS. You can't really tell from the photo, but it's throwing about a 10 foot rooster tail out the back. Full throttle with a light load. I bet it'll go faster when I weigh down the bow a little more.

Nice setup cal5mcd, and welcome to iboats. Keep your eyes open for an iboats West get together thread. We had the first one last year at Havasu, and thinking about the second weekend in April this year, same place. It's a decent mid-point for Nev, AZ and CA boaters.

Like that Old Town too. My dad has a similar setup with a Yammy 5 on a Grumman. He says handling was a little squirrely until he starting keeping a couple of two gallon gas tanks up front. Speaking of gas, I think his total fuel bill last summer was about thirty-seven bucks... 8)

Hi Scout. Yeah I need about 150lbs. up in the bow to keep it down. It rides very smooth then. I uprun rivers in this thing including small rapids and you need the extra ponies to stay out of trouble. The 5hp I had on there would do it, but it was slow going. It was a Briggs & Stratton though. I was always curious how a regular 5hp outboard would have performed. I REALLY like the 8 though!
