I have a 16 ft or so swing keel with a scratched in hin number starting with cyt. It is a hinged pop top. Two large hinged cockpit hatches. NO winch. Only hole with small pulley. Never seen this. Any ideas. No paperwork

The small hole and pulley are for raising/lowering the keel.

No paperwork most likely means a swing keel yard planter.

Venture was a MacGregor boat, wasn't it? MacGregor's MIC code would be MAC or MGG. If your HIN starts with CYT that's the MIC code for Cobalt boats. Whom I don't believe ever built sailboats.

Do you have a true ballast swing keel, or is it just a centerboard? That setup wouldn't be unusual for a centerboard, and a 16' boat wouldn't necessarily need a true swing keel. The cam cleat kinda' suggests there wouldn't be a winch in that rigging (at least to me).

Hmmm. You might have something there. Boat was delivered today ( it was a freebie) and shoal keel is resting on center trailer board so i cant see it until i lift boat up. I also couldnt find any big obvious pivot bolt inside cabin which would support your idea. I should of posted more pics. Someone has to recognize it. Hin ends in 77 so suspect it build year

Mast boom and rudder won't care what kind of boat they're on ;)

I don't recognize it at all. Kinda' looked like a Chrysler, but nothing jumps out. Did it have it's sails with it? Replacing all of that rigging won't be cheap. You may find a mostly ready to go sailboat for similar money.

I understand. I have rescued and rebuilt a few before. Mostly Pelicans, couple vagabonds, a neptune and gloucester. I am a terrible sailor but cant neglect potential on an old crappy free boat Labor of love. Never get anywhere close to time and money i put in. Keeps me out of bar!

Oh cool ... and good on 'ya then. Enjoy!

I looked up a few things, the Buccaneer was the first. But I don't think it matched that. Keep posted if you figure out what it is.
