Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

I was googling a bit today and I think I'm going to see if warm water + soap detergent will get it off. If that doesn't work, then I'm going to try some of my wife's nail polish.

If neither works, I will just have 1 ghetto side of a boat lol.

I was going to take it out tomorrow but they are calling for rain around noon, and my normal lake is infected with algae stuff, so I may just drive down to a river and go fishing from the shore instead of taking the boat out, so I'm not in a huge hurry right now.

Although I'd like to get it out this weekend since I have a fish finder now!

Here is the lake I normally go to, and you can see the warning at the top of the page there.

Montgomery Parks: Boating - Lake Needwood Boats

I will check that out.

Here is an article about proper cleaning and care for our boats. Ours are PVC. I don't want to see you hurt yours. I would be afraid to use the nail polish remover.
Ask the Skipper: How to clean inflatable boat? Choosing the right inflatable boat cleaner - part 1.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

My Mariner 4 arrived this week and today we took it out on the lake for a couple hours.

Quite enjoyable except for the seats??? I see why that is the first mod you guys do. The Endura 38 electric motor moved it along quite nicely and the Weedless Wedge prop did its thing. The oars seemed a little too short.

In prep, I sanded the ends of the floor boards, strapped the battery box to a small piece of plywood, and built a rough dolly/cart from an old garden wagon rear wheel set ( a little too heavy) and some 2" PVC pipe. It worked surprising well up a steep boat ramp. (Going down was a breeze.)

I also added 7 feet of cable on to the motor cable using some submersible pump cable. Now I can put the battery anywhere.

I can see why you guys put in a wooden floor. I could stand on the slatted floor but not comfortably.

Now to find/make some seats.

My uncle lives near that lake, and he found this when he was walking along the shore.

Needless to say, I would stay away!
I just read the caution stuff. holy moly!!!! stay 2-3 miles away from the lake and don't come in contact with anyone that does!! they need to close that lake down asap before someone gets hurt or develops come kind of non curable disease that is airborne!

Hey ChristianMariner cool video. When you drop your anchor what do you tie it to in your boat?

Bro, I totally meant to bring that up ( for you, cause you asked before ) and forgot. If you watch the video, the anchor box is below a tie off for the gear bag (that I dont use). I anchor there. If I start fishing I might move to a 2 anchor setup like was mentioned here before, by mrdr ( I think ).

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

First day out with the new floor and:
The Good: As usual, my boat got a lot of attention, I brought a friend along who was fishing ( caught some baby small mouth bass, and threw em back ) and noticed that everyone on the lake wants to know what my boat is, where I got it, what kind of floor I have ( because they see the chairs ) and how I have a motor on an inflatable.

The Bad: It is better with the new floor, but only because the chairs dont fall through the slats. Having the wood unattached to eachother, it isnt all rock solid like everyone else seems to be reporting. I may figure out a way to attach the 3 section wood to eachother.

The Ugly: I am taking on water now!? :( Either from test fitting the wood, moving the boat around while working on it all the time, or worse maybe from the new floor! I get a puddle in the boat under the wood floor now. Gonna investigate, but not real happy about it.

Here are some pics of the day. Note, when its time to chill at the beach the chairs and ice chest come out of the boat ( yay ). All the sudden it was like a beer commercial, all kind of hot bikini clad women playing volleyball... ok, not really. But it is nice to sit on the shore, give the motor a rest and maybe do a little swimmin.

Thanks for telling the good, the bad and the ugly.

It looks like you have a beautiful spot for boating.

A red umbrella too - cool!

Good to hear you got out! Sux about the taking in water part. How was the dolly? I had a bad experience yesterday I tries going out and things kept going wrong. After I put dolly on I mounted my ob, my kota and 29 battery. Was going fine until a little pot hole where the wheel just broke and ke bending in half way on the ramp! Finally got my boat into the water and 5 min later my my ob messed up. Then I tried using my kota and the current was to strong! Thank god the current was taking me to shore but got to close and the prop bottomed out and chipped a little. So horrible day had to carry my boat about 1/4 of a mile in knee high water with my wife in it lol. Tired as hell and will work on my ob on Monday

Oh man, that is the suck, I hate to hear about a miserable day with everything going wrong. We have all had those ( not just with boats ) and man, its just part of the ride. I hope that your wife is a cheerleader and not a nay sayer, to help you get through a crummy day like that.
Take the dolly back and exchange it? I hope that works.
I dont know anything about OB's except yours seems to let you down a alot, I hope you get it remedied.
The good times will outwiegh the bad, we are resourceful ( humans in general ) and I bet you get it nailed down and your next trip will be a blast! Let us know when its fixed and you get another good day out there buddy!

Found a pinhole under the boat, unsure what caused it, but it wasn't the floor ( whew ). Patched it ( on both sides ) with the supplied sticker style patches... will let ya'll know how it holds up.

Christian, i really like your setup man, using those chairs i didn't even think about it. How well does that umbrella work if the wind picks up on the water?

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Glad to see that ChristianMariner is sea worthy again.

I wonder if one could cut some thin boards to put between the slats in the floor that came with the boat. It'd be nice to find some similar plastic material.

I found a good mariner video page but my data plan is low.

ChristianMariner glad to see you found the problem and seems like you fixed it. Also glad to hear that it wasn't the custom floor that caused it as well.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Finally got out on the M4 the last two weekends for a camping trip and a fun day fishing with my son.
The hard wood floor was sweet! First trip was stock with the Minn Kota motor and power centre, while the second was with the floor and table. Wow what a difference!! Rock solid!! The carpeted floor was really nice:) Still waiting on my seats to arrive. Up in the air as to how to mount the seats to the floor. It's a toss up over a pedestal or the portable seat stand that I would be able to put in and take out with ease. Ill post what ai end up doing when I decide.
