Hey, 27" simply allows the floor to be dropped in with the boat fully inflated, it doesn't tuck under the tubes or anything. Just makes for quicker setup on the water

Opinions please..... I know they are expensive, but I'm really considering getting a motorguide foot controlled transom trolling motor. My major complaint about using the boat is constantly having to steer instead of being able to fish. I like trolling along the bank when i fish and constantly steering is a pain! The are around $400 but i think I'd be able to use it on future boats as well....thoughts?

I'm also looking at purchasing the procontroll foot controller. It's about $100, but there aren't many reviews it.

Petoria: Welcome to the fraternity! Heck we may even have an associated sorority! I'm often baffled myself!

Speaking for myself, I'm still a newb in many ways, so don't hesitate asking! I can't say I know the width of my floor, but I could measure it if you'd like. Just be forewarned that not every boat is exactly the same dimensions.

For the width through the middle, I cut one of the 4' sections a little wide (based on the slats) then placed it on the bottom, with the boat deflated. From that I got a better idea and cut off what I thought was enough. The annoyance was not that it wasn't right the 1st time but that I felt I should sand the edges round-ish, for each attempt, to ensure I'd not put a splinter through the boat while sizing the floor. This had to be done a number of times for the ends, as they taper. My floor can not go in or come out with the tubes fully or even half inflated, so the fit is relatively tight, hopefully without putting any stress on the seams along the bottom.

My floor width is not shorter than the slat/planks. I figured that if the slats could fit between the bottom and the tubes, along the edges and be that thick, my thinner floor could easily be that wide, if not a touch wider.

MrDr: A foot controlled trolling motor!? Gees! So when do you get the gal who fans you with an ostrich feather while feeding you peeled grapes!? Just messin' with you, of course, in a possibly somewhat sexist way, but hopefully not to an offensive extent! That ride of yours is getting slicker and slicker all the time! I'll admit I have thought of such a motor but only in passing. If I'm ever out your way I might just have to invite myself along for a ride! You'd certainly be welcome along out here. Best of luck in your search for a bow mount. Keep us all informed of what you decide, either way, and why. We're closing down the office early today for the holiday, so I hope to get out fishing in a few hours myself. It's hot and the bass should be active!

Copper! No girl (wife won't go for it!) But i do have a battery operated fan i use for camping to put on the boat! Fantastic idea! And I'm leaning towards the pro controller instead of a whole new motor....I'll let you know what i decide....on my cell phone now, when i get home I'll post a link to the YouTube vid for it and get your opinion

thanks for the prompt input and response guys. Wow a fraternity without the pledging haha. I was thinking that probably the 27 in measurment was when the slat floor was in not out. Hey copper, I figure since the slat floor has loose plastic pieces that slide out the flooring should be fine when pressed against the seems as long as it is sanded and smooth and the keel is inflated. I think that I may still use the slatted floor when i just go out on the water to relax and use the wood flooring when we go fishing. Thanks to all for your great pics and ideas it has helped out alot. Next project is to make a swivel seat.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

hey copper the battery circuit breakers are basically to protect a surge from blowing out the motor. It is possible if you get caught in some weeds or soemthing else that if you give the motor full power it will use more than full power of the battery to try to break off from the weeds. Circuit breakers are not necessary but I agree with Mr. DH the minn kota power box is awesome and has two breakers built in, one for the battery and one for cig lighter's. I believe 60 amp and a 10-20 so it will protect it instead of surging and frying the trolling motor.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

My boat hasn't arrived yet, but its on the way.
I know that the rear of the boat is the end where the motor mount goes, but is that the only difference?
I mean, could I use that as the front of the boat and put my bow mount trolling motor "up front" ? Or is the boat somehow directional with the inflated keel, oarlocks, etc?

I am thinking I would be more comfortable sitting "up front" steering and throttle arm forward, with the battery positioned in "the back" to displace weight.

Thanks!

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

I bought a Mariner 3 last week and just ordered a Mariner 4 today. I should be fishing in it next Thursday. This is a great thread and I found this forum looking for reviews on the Mariner 4. I plan on fishing in it a few times before making any mods. That way I will have a better idea for what best fits my needs. You guys have made some great mods with your 4's. I also ordered a 40lb thrust Minnkota and will buy a group 27 battery from Costco.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Just finished customizing my Mariner 4. I have a 7/16 floor with the indoor/outdoor carpet and I hinged it in the middle to fit in my car. I also made a custom mount for my fishfinder(when I get one) phone radio etc...

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Hello..I just got a Mariner 4 last week. Took it out twice so far and it has been great. I am using a 55 thrust trolling motor right now with the Intex Composite mount. I'm saving up for a small outboard that has an integrated fuel tank.

Couple of questions:

I have been leaving the floor and rolling the boat up in one piece. I assume this is ok? Do you think it will be safe to roll the boat up with the mount still attached? If its loosely rolled?.

Next question...So far, the island hopper motors are the most affordable that i've found that have a good reputation. The motor I really want is the suzuki 2.5..but it's a little pricey..Are there any other sub $500 motors out there like the island hoppers?

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Well still waiting for the Mariner to arrive, but I did buy a battery and a motor and a mount ( as I mentioned earlier ). That was a huge success I've been out on the water all day. I'm still there now actually in my challenger 300. The PVC Dolly was an utter disaster. Its failed miserably, and I had to drag the boat with one hand and carry the group 29 battery with the other. I'm not exactly Arnold Schwarzenegger, it was quite a trip from the car down to the water... about a quarter of a mile. I am NOT looking forward to the trip back to the car. However for my first time out on an inflatable raft with a trolling motor ( mine is a minnkota 17 pound thrust that looks to be as old as I am ) and this is even better than I had expected.

Dude, i watched that part of your vid (great editing btw) and i was thinking to myself "there's no way in hell that'll carry my boat!" So....with the battery of course....I'm not surprised that it didn't work. Several of us have discussed a pvc cart/dolly for the mariner. I actually have a furniture dolly that works ok but too low to the ground. Keep up the good work and share your mods!
