Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

Hello all here is my floor for my Mariner 4 that I made out of 1/2 plywood and aluminum H channel and some gorilla tape I have added some pictures of it along with this post I have been out in it and it works real good way lot better than the roll up floor that came with it. I weighed all the pieces togather and it came up to 36 lbs not much over the weight of the factory roll up floor. I am gonna paint top side white and put some grit in paint so person dont slip when getting in and out of it they say that white reflects heat so we will see . Feel free to comment.DSCN1362.JPGDSCN1363.JPGDSCN1366.JPGDSCN1371.JPGDSCN1382.JPG

I'm thinking about fishing on the Sac and Feather river this year for salmon with my Mariner 4.

That partial post was done by my stinkin' smart phone, LOL.
I live very near Sacramento, I plan to frequent these lakes:
Clementine
Folsom
Rollins
Sugar Pine

I don't know if you can take one of these boats out on the ocean though...

What do you guys think of placing a thin ( 3/8) inch plywood section over the factory floorboard ? How would that work in your opinion.

Thats a good question, I am wondering if anyone has done this either.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

I got the new mariner 4 out on the water yesterday. The new and improved pvc dolly worked, but not perfectly. 1 and 1/2 inch is stout though, I am going to redesign this one using the same 1 and 1/2 pvc. Here is a video of my trip to the lake. There is nothing technical or anything about modding here, just me cruising around ( this was made for my youtube channel, not for this forum, I will be making a more technical video for this forum when the final PVC Dolly is done!! ).

Oh man that is a big boy version of the same one I built that fell apart.
After seeing yours, I stopped by harbor freight & home depot on the way to work. I bought those same wheels, and some 1 1/2 inch PVC. Im gonna try again. I seriously cant get this boat + motor + battery from the car to the water without something ( or another person, which I do not have; maybe I should change deodorant... )
I will be building tonight & testing tomorrow.

Adding a length-wise cross-member to the top where the raft rides and one between the risers will make a big difference. Gluing everything, except where the platform connects to the risers will make it much more stable, and give you two flat pieces to transport. Just a suggestion.

I'm going to purchase my Mariner 4 today and was wondering what pump you all recommend to use with the boat. I would prefer to use one that can work off a charge, but also hold a charge long enough to be able to inflate/deflate in the same charge. I was looking to first get one that I could hook to my cigarette lighter, but I think I'd rather have a portable one so I can just inflate/deflate it right by the water instead of doing it by my car then dragging it down to the water.

AStanton: I recommend that when you can afford it you also purchase a power source, as I have, thus freeing you from your vehicle, to inflate your boat. Earlier in this thread (June 28th I believe - pg 10) I posted 3 pix of my setup and in the 1st (left) you can see the Black & Decker 375 amp unit I have. This was $50, and I'd recommend it, but is also able to inflate car tires (on its own). Units without this feature are less expensive. In the photo, my pump is already plugged in.

When I get to the water, I unload everything, including this unit so I do not need to inflate the boat close to the vehicle. I place it in the boat and simply move the pump from valve to valve to inflate the boat. This unit plus the pump goes out on lakes with me and is handy if I want to top up any of the boat tubes, which might be necessary if the temperature drops. Bring along your phone's car charger and your phone won't die while on the water, even if you are using it to play tunes or the ball game.

Re: Intex Mariner 4 modifications and Tips

It barely did the job with my M4. I am revising it very soon. Waiting to see how yours holds up ;-)

Terrible day. Dolly did not hold my empty boat for more then 2 seconds. Fell apart right away. Put screw in and still fell apart. I got a solution though!! Works flawlessly look at the dolly I bought from Home Depot. Put the bottom against the transom and run 2 long tie downs under it to the front of your boat so the dolly doesn't roll on its own path. Holy crap it worked so well I can't believe I spent days and hour buying PVC pipes drilling and everything. This dolly takes much less room and you can turn it any way you want dolly wont fall apart

I just tried some glue last night, boy does it make a difference. It is like superglue! It sets up real quick, and seems to be just as strong as the pvc itself.
