A indian casino (Ho-Chunk Casino) here in Wisconsin is spending more money than they are taking in. Boku-Accounting firm is reccomending to them that they file for bankruptcy... Indian Casino's have their own government independent of the US of A... Are not subject to many of regular business taxing regulations.

What do you guys think?

Sean

Only two ways for a casino to fail; one is mismanagement (read as "extreme stupidity"), the other one involves law enforcement.

Check that, both should involve law enforcement.

Or, could the location be that bad?

Even tho' the Casino is not far from me, I've only been in it to see the foyer entrance of the hotel, which I was told was amazing - it is amazing.

All I can think of is that if it did go out of business, what a eyesore it would be. Since no one else can run a casino but the Indians, who would buy it. Probably would just rot.

In Green Bay (actually Ashwaubenon) the Oneida Bingo & Casino gets a bomb threat almost once a week. Everytime there is a bomb threat, Ashwaubenon police and rescue respond. After all, the casino is across the street from the main Airport in Green Bay.

Guess how much in taxes they pay for that service - next to nothing. What I'm saying it I think it is BS that they should be allowed to file for BK protection after they suck the life our of the local economy.

Sean

IMO, they are no better than you or I and should pay the same as you and I.

Yea I know, I know, they were here before us and all that crap, but they want the same as we have so they need to pay the same as we do.

Re: Interesting Situation...

Fact is that they are not the same. I can't get a bunch of my friends together and start a casino here in CA. Maybe we could in NV though, hmmmmm . . . I know, Iboats Casino, we could run it from these boards!! It would be really cheap. We might have to pay off the Administrators though. Will they keep a secret for cash?

That's the deal we cut with them in the 1800s. Separate, sovereign nations. A deal is a deal.

Kinda hard to go bankrupt when you have a monopoly on a vice. There has to be a lot of hanky-panky going on or serious, obvious stupidity.

No doubt, I agree with Ralph.

I've been to the Ho-Chunk (I have family in Reedsburg), but I live in Nevada, and my girlfriend is a blackjack dealer, so I get a lot of exposure through her. The Ho-Chunk is nearly World-Famous, my girlfriend talks to LOTS of people in Lake Tahoe that visit the Ho-Chunk in Wisconsin.

How in the world are they going bankrupt?

How about we treat you like every Indian?

How would you like that?

You mean give me a house, car, union likejob with guaranteed hours, for a amount of money, free medical care, no taxes, free childcare, free food? Hell yeah, where do I sign up?

I live right next door to the Cherokee Nation, so dont tell me that they dont get all that, because I know they do. I have several indian friends and they all get it. Really pisses me off too.

Exactly what I was going to say. Hell, I'll give you my boat if you want to start treating me like an indian. There is not one indian alive today that went through anything bad that wasn't their own doing. Same is true for their parents...and their grandparents...and their grandparents....all the s**t they get away with today is ridiculous. They didn't earn it in any way, shape, or form.

When they were given the rights they have they had no casinos and they were all living in teepees. If they want to go back to doing that they should be treated the way they are currently, otherwise they need to join the real world like you and I.

How 'bout we start letting mexicans live tax free and open casinos...we took land from them didn't we?

I don't care what they get. We cut deals in return for an end of hostilities and land. They paid for everything they get with their blood IMHO.

The difference is we made a deal. A treaty. People of honor live up to their agreements.

The same things we give to prisoners. Interesting. Except the car of course.

BTW, unless you are an Indian, you have NO idea. Clueless.

Then please, enlighten me. What has the owner of the Ho Chunk casino done to deserve being able to open a casino, tax free, and then go bankrupt, that I haven't done?

Since when do we give prisoners all of that, plus the ability to come and go they wish, own firearms, vote, and any other rights afforded by the constitution? They are citizens of the USA, what makes them better? Throughout history conquered nations have had to abide by their conquerers rule, I see no difference here, except they get more benefits and rights than the citizens of the nation(s) that did the conquering.

My Grandmother is 100% Choctaw, her husband (my Grandfather) was 100% German. I have an idea, just dont believe yours is right.

We won, they lost get over it.

Re: Interesting Situation...

Given that reasoning, you are absolutely right Nate, but what right did we have to "conquer" them in the first place?

(Moving further away from the original point, sorry)

If I knew the answer to that, I would be a foreign policy cabinet member at the White House. :D
