Inherited new boat. Unsure what it is exactly

The only information I have is it's a 1965 vhull. Not really sure about anything else. Any information would be appreciated. I'm looking to build some decks and a compartment in the back to hold the battery and gas tank(have a curious 3 and 5 yr old that might mess with it). Thanks for looking!

Oh yeah, its been modified a bit.

You definitely NEED a new steering cable. That one is a disaster waiting to happen. Thats a lot of HP to be flopping around back there with no steering.

Also, those 4 screen door pull handles for tie down anchor points are not right.
Anchor points need to be through bolted in the transom. Not screwed into the sheet metal.

Splash well looks late 60's.
Windshield looks newer, 80's ?.

I wonder if they just did a really good job of converting a Jupiter? to an open bow model ?

Looks like they did a nice job, but I would be getting that steering cable replaced ASAP.

Agreed, it's either well modified or newer then '65.
Post the S/N and I'll take a guess at the year.
Hint - the 60's have a number that usually starts with the year (2 digits) - ie; 67 xxxxx.

Whatever kind of Starcraft she is, thats a nice boat! Welcome and enjoy working on it, great canvas to start with. Beyond what has already been said, Id be looking out for ferrous metal that the PO put in. Would also look close at that transom, check it for rot.

Congrats on the "new" boat. I have two SS 160's ... a 1974 that used to have those double doors and an 84 that has a plywood door (see the pic) on a piano hinge that flips up. I removed the double doors from the 74 because it was a pain to get in there with the gas tanks, batteries, bilge pump, etc. It's open right now but I might put a vinyl snap on cover like some boats have or the flip up plywood. I'm going to put a casting deck on the 84 in front of the opening.

That's cool. Is that pressure treated? What's the vinyl snap on cover? I was thinking maybe a tarp with buttons. Idk. I just don't want the girls in there

No, pressure treated wood should never be on an aluminum boat. The chemicals will eat the aluminum

Here's the front end. I was thinking about putting a deck upon those existing steps maybe braces in the middle.

While that might slow down the reaction, those chemicals will leach out every time the wood gets wet and sooner or later will get to the aluminum. There are folks that have gotten away with using treated lumber with no issues....how much of a gambler are you ??

My thought is that weathering will affect the wood more than microbial rot. The chemicals won't protect against the weather.

Sorry, was offline getting ready for a camping trip. It's just painted plywood. The snap cover I've seen is just a piece of vinyl with snaps. Should keep the girls out.
