Just picked up this 19' 1988 Maxim Stingray for a super deal with a 305. Its raining hard here now so I will get more pics up later but these will do for now. It has been sitting in the slip for two months now and I am going to pick up the powerwasher to blow it off this afternoon.

Do you guys think there is a market for half restored boats out there?

I don't really think so. If you found the right person, then probably.

That is way more than two months growth on that drive. My boat hasn't been out of the water since Feb. and is way cleaner.

yes. and a pressure washer is a good place to start. You will need to prep and re paint that drive at some point. I would also wonder if the overheat was partly as a result of blocked water intakes from all that growth.

Your probably right, he never cleaned off the outdrive. I wish this rain would stop so I could get to work on cleaning it off before it gets hard.

I really like the look of the new boat from what I can see of it. Get some pics with the covers off. I think the best market you have for selling the other boat is right here. We are the only ones crazy enough to take on projects like that. Start a thread called "Great boat for sale, New transom, Just a couple days work and it will be ready for the lake" :D

Hi Vert

nice looking project.....hows the inside?

looks like a bad ***** boat! gonna sound awsome in the water....BA BA BA BA BAP! with those thru hull exhausts

wow that boat has been in the water since it was new! looks like an 1800s shipwreck (the drive area) or like it was backed up into a mucky swamp! must be good fishing where you're at from the looks fo the growth!

Hey theres no reason to toss the old project right? how bout 2 projects!!!!!!!!!! unless your in an HOA and have to much junk...DONT GIVE UP!!!!! do a quickie on the new one and finish the old one through the next year or so!

you can do it!

while were asking questions....would it be pretentious to ask HOW MUCH did ya got it for :D

Its not the work on the other boat or laying out money for the small things it is the price of epoxy. I Have enjoyed working on the boat and have learned alot in a small amount of time and if it does not sell I will have to finish it. I used to think you (Vegas) were crazy and now I am in the same boat(no pun intended). You guys are making me nervous about the outdrive. The guy had to get it out of the water and I guess he was in a jam.

I don't see much of a market for half done projects. Finish it like you were going to keep it and you might come close to getting your epoxy money back out.

The new boat looks good, but one thing that drive tells me is that the previous owner did NO maintenance on the boat. Cleaning the drive is relatively easy compared to oil changes, impeller changes, gear lube, etc.

I'd be willing to bet he ran the engine while it was "overheating" for a while too. Make sure you check compression, plugs, oil, the works before you try to take it out, otherwise you may end up making a problem worse. At this point you may already need a new engine....

Finally got around to taking some interior pics. I took out the back seat and will be rebuilding it over the winter and it makes it easy to work on the motor.

Thanks Vegas, yeah the interior will do for now. I just want to make sure the transom is good and then I will be happy. Floor is solid and stringers appear to be good but still need to be checked out. I started messing with the motor today and found some problems but that is easy stuff compared to full restos.

83vert,
I don't no how, but I forgot you had a new boat.
I really like the looks of her. Not sure about that engine looks a little rough in the pic's.
I also hate to see you not finish the old project too. :( I really enjoyed reading about your progress.
Well good luck with them both.

It looks like a bit of cleanup and getting that leg to flow some water and you might be off and running.

She looks to be in really good usable cosmetic shape.

Thats good news! cosmetic and mechanical repairs definitely are quicker than full restos........

I cant tell from the pics....did taht baby come with a bimini top?

once you get new carpet in it, you will be amazed at the difference.....it will look like new once shes all polished up.

keep us posted on the motor finds......hopefully the cyl walls didnt get damaged from the overheat issue. (piston rings bind and leave ring material on cyl walls, kinda like welding) I have seen that on car engines in my past career that were overheated excessively

.......that would be awsome if it was just a couple cheap parts / new spark plugs / fuel filter / new oil /fuel water separator filter / new impeller and fluid in outdrive ...and shes ready to go!
