Do quick compression test on the motor and that will let you know where you stand on the motor internals. Just a $15 guage at autozone and all the doubt is gone.

Hey Vert,

I just thought of it, Do you want the 305 I just pulled? I'll give her to ya for spare parts after I pull the accessories off it it had good compression, and all If you are staying with a 305 it might be easier just to have the crank cut on this one its a closed cooling fresh water motor.

P.S I'm impressed is that a snap-on ratchet I see on top of that air cleaner.

Thanks Vegas, yeah the interior will do for now. I just want to make sure the transom is good and then I will be happy. Floor is solid and stringers appear to be good but still need to be checked out. I started messing with the motor today and found some problems but that is easy stuff compared to full restos.

Hey Vert, Your boat has a "FLOOR" lol just messing with ya man :D

I cant believe that I did not catch that. LOL. The DECK on it is solid though, still not sure about the floor yet. I will take that 305 off your hands when your ready to part ways with it, just let me know.

Hehehe sorry I couldn't resist lol.

Sounds good with the 305, I started stripping her tonight, looks like it was a fresh motor. New paint, really no carbon buildup on the exhaust valves or runners. You might be able to have the crank cut, put a new set of bearings in her and run with it. You still have my private info? I'll shoot you an e-mail with it later just in case

Re: In with the new and do what with the old?

Well after a long winter and the install of a new fuel pump, starter, alternator, circulator pump, tune up, exhaust, thermostat housing, battery, and two new belts I got the boat running today. I hooked up the muffs and started it and thats when I realized a leak from the starboard manifold elbow drain. The P/O overheated and must have melted the plastic drain so I will try and replace it tomorrow and shoot some video for you guys. I also donated the Chaparral to a guy that will be turning it into a duck hunting boat . It feels good to be finally catching up on things :D

The Stingray is now ready for a sea trial. I had to replace the carb and it is now running great. The bottom of the bench seat was totally rotten so I made up a new one and just need to find some gray carpet to rap it in.

I posted this on the Merc forum but figured you would get a laugh out of the old carbs internal fuel filter.

Nice to see the boat back in action again.

I would have loved to get my hands on a boat like that.

Hey Vert,
That fuel filter does look like crap.
You can get Grey /O carpet at Lowe's.
Glad to hear she is running good.
Take care.

Hey Vert

Im finished with the alignment tool if you need it. I am going to Port Jeff this afternoon but I will leave it along with the welded up 9/16 on my front porch by the battery charger I have there.

Re: In with the new and do what with the old?

Now all I need to do is order the rug for the bottom of the bench seat and put the interior back together. Hopefully next weekend or a week night I can be in the water for a trial run. Here is one more vid :D ( I could not help myself).
