Hey guys, I am new to the forum. Tons of great info on here. I am new to outboard motors but not to turning wrenches so I have some mechanical knowledge.
Ok here is my problem. I have a 1977 55hp Evinrude. I have taken the carbs apart 3 times and cleaned them with carb cleaner and small pieces of wire. I replaced the needle and seat. Also readjusted the floats.
When I get the boat in the water and lift the warm up lever and choke it she fires up but the rpms shoot up to around 3,000. I will push the lever down slowly and it will sputter and die. If I am quick I can get it in gear and it runs perfect 1/4, 1/2, and full throttle perfect.
I have a fuel pump rebuild kit on the way to see if that will help. What do you guys recommend.
Thanks everybody.
