Don't know about Crack but I agree with the addiction. Something about taking tests, Q&A stimulating the brain and making you want to come back for more.....especially when you are lucky enough to say something that gets a "ditto" from a "co-addict". Grin

Yup, the subject matter is fun, but the helpful members are what really make it!

I think the best part is the level of participation and new posts!

Yes it is. I unfortunately spend alot of my workday logged in to this site when I should be working. Good thing I own my own business. I use it to pass the off season away, dreaming of the first day this year when i can get back on the water.

This site is addictive! I find myself on here several times a day looking around and soaking up information. Best place on the net to find info about boats/boating.

Re: iboats forum is addicting?!

I've been on other forums as well, for fellow campers, Tacoma's, Checkmates, Scream and Fly, etc..., they are all great, but I think the level of involvement and degree a differences on iboats exceeds the interest I have seen on the others...maybe because it's more universal rather than make specific?!

Anyway, I appreciate the level of talent and expertise displayed here and the camaraderie/ribbing/advise/friendships that develop because of our love of all things boating is obvious!

I grew up in Tacoma, Washington on my grandfather's little closed bow (can't remember make/model/size) and in 1979 he purchased a 21' Bayliner cuddy-cabin and we went fishing quite a bit. I grew up sailing a 20' O'Day sailboat with a friend of my step-dad's and learned a lot about sailing.

Moved to Colorado in 1985 and the practical side of me never saw enough water to justify having a boat. In 2007 I purchased my Baja from one of my good friend's dad and have sense used the wheels off it (pun intended). With 2 young kids I hope it leaves the same memories for them as my growing up with boats did for me.

After cruising on the forums here (most nights over the past 2 weeks catching up on all the restoration projects, tinny's and glassers) I have gained a new found respect for the older boats and and glad to say my boat is 30 years old this year (I consider it old), not at the age of WOG or others but old to me?!

I don't know if I need a restoration...based on what I've seen restored/rebuild I wouldn't bet against it?! I have a very solid floor, very sold transom no cracks and a few scratches. She's been trailered, mostly inside stored or covered and her only real use was probably 1982-1990 then again in 2007 when I purchased (heck, knowing the PO, I bet this thing went a few years completely unused?)

Anyway, Happy Boating and Happy iboating!

Re: iboats forum is addicting?!

I love iboats... everyone is so knowledgable ... before i knew about iboats i was very skeptic to join forums as in the past i havent had much help from computer related forums when i was fixing computers, etc.. and i didnt think the communities were great enough to find anyone to help...
i was also wasting so much time on facebook...
but since then i have become familiar with many Iboats regulars and enjoy all of your posts. and the community... well what can i say,... its amazing!! you have people from all over the States and over the world that are willing to put in two cents so you can save hundreds if not thousands...
all i know is, if i didnt have iboats.com i would have probably given up on my rebuild and would have moved on to a different hobby... like basket weaving lol.

So once again from the bottom of the sea, thank you all for your help motivation and experiance.

I'm lying on bed in a hotel in Italy, having just waxed and edged our skis ready for tomorrow. What the ... am I doing on iBoats? Hello, my name is Chris, and I'm an addict....

.... and glad to say my boat is 30 years old this year (I consider it old), not at the age of WOG or others but old to me?!...

Mine's 40 years old in May... Still looks as good as day one, but with a slightly :D different engine....

Re: iboats forum is addicting?!

The addiction ramps up significantly in April. I think every boating forum shows its peak use then. All the boating crack heads are on the boards in April. I've got some tools I can use to track website hits, and this place is just off the charts in April.

Nah. This is not addictive. I have been here for almost 11 years, 4 to 6 hours a day and I can still . . .sto. . .any time I choose.

Re: iboats forum is addicting?!

Can you tell I've been on the board alot?
I used to also go on the Aluminum boat and repair board and Ol Paws boat motor board
but they are under repair since 01/06 I don't think they will be back Not like this board but some interesting stuff still left.
My 1st boat was a 10ft Sharpy made in Mexico NY with a 1.5 Evinrude I was 6.A few years later a 14ft steel boat found in the woods with a 2 hp Elgin.A nice slender boat with a graceful run aft.I know I could have gotten max displacement speed if I knew what I know now. 62 year later still messing about in boats. Though not on the water as much.

I don't get what you guys are talking about. I am able to control myself and can limit my checking in here on IBoats to a maximum of only 15 times a day. Addiction? What addiction? Be back in a few..............
