Agreed-----You will spend 50 + hrs and many beer tokens for parts.------Look for one in better condition.------They are out there.

Fully restored you will have a 65 yr old Engine, that except for a few Collectors, is only worth a couple of Hundred Dollars on the Market. Even Collectors will not offer what it will have cost

Speaking of skies check out what came with the boat, they look like they came with it from when they bought it. While looking through old boats trying to find out what kind this is I noticed some of the old 50's boats came with skies. These kinda look like they are from the 50s

That magneto will drop down after removing 4 small bolts. Some are a ***** to work out due to carb/linkage. There is a blind spline and can only go together one way.
Points will be corroded, clean carefully and gap to .008". Careful with everything in there. Points alone are $50 if you can find them. Distributor cap NLA $200.
After reassembly you should see the points spark (dark garage) by spinning the spline quickly. That mag will BITE you, wear leather gloves.

I'm having fun playing around with these old boats, hell I'll more than likley give them to my nephew's when I get to old to fish. Maybe I can pass it down to them and they can keep these old boats running another 70 years. I'm thinking hard putting the Ls motor I got in the allison one day. Anyone have experience doing something like that?

I'm really enjoying digging in to these old motors. If I don't save this one it might end up scrap and I would hate and let me stress HATE. For a beautiful piece of history that the greatest generation of all time engineered to go to waste. The way I see it, if I fix these motors up to brand new there is no reason my kids or nieces and nephews shouldn't get to use it for the rest of their lives and possibly pass it on to their kids. Especially if I buy all the parts that wear out in doubbles. Who knows maybe one day it will be worth something to somebody other than me, maybe by the time my grand kids are my age it will be worth enough to trade in on a brand new boat. (Wishful thinking I know šŸ˜“
