Awesome job of removing the paint. It looks like you have the dirtiest part done.

There's some tough work behind you, now you can get onto the stage where fun can happen.

I'm definitely looking forward to moving on to next steps!

Tomorrow morning we have a short road trip which will take 1/2 our day, but the good news is that it's actually KF related. Dunno how much work we'll get done but I do have plans. :congratulatory:

So after 3.5 hours of driving today, we have this.
A replacement shifter for the 50HP Mercury! :D

This is the shifter from the 70HP Mercury. Gotta find that cover!

Went out to the garage with the boy this evening and chatted about next steps. He now has the "big picture" of what's going to happen. Dunno if he'll remember tomorrow though!

The only thing I did tonight was to reopen the JB Weld covering the keel weep hole that somebody, whose initials may or may not be BWR, covered in the past.  :noidea: :stupid:

Picked this up off c-list this afternoon. Brand new, never used. Only 25 bucks! :D

Pretty soon I'll be fabricating brackets and whatnot for the KF, so it'll come in handy.

Today's progress...

Preparing for a leak test tomorrow! :D

After a year of being worked on, stepped in, manhandled and otherwise bumped around, I figured that the KF could use a leak test to be certain that it will remain dry after being painted. And after all that work, I sure don't want to just slap some paint on, put it back together and find out that it leaks after the re-splash! Not after 3 years of being bone dry! :nono:

First things first. Got the boat out of the shop so that the boy could do a quick cleanup. (Major cleanup follows at a later date.)

My buddy came over and helped us get things moved around. KF outside, inside ready for cleanup.
3.jpg

The boy kept at it with the blower and got all the dust outta there!
7.jpg

We lined the bow to the trailer.
8.jpg

We added a tow strap to the winch strap to provide the length needed to crank the boat back up onto the trailer.
9.jpg

Then we raised the front of the trailer onto a work bench, giving an up angle to the job, making alignment easier.
10.jpg

While cranking the boat up, I used my own personal bulk to anchor the work bench to keep it from moving around while the boy winched. :tongue-new:

The boy insisted on doing all the winching. At this point, the trailer tongue is back on the ground and he's finishing up.

Back outside and on the trailer!

Ready for the leak test!

Put it back in the garage and add the water, let sit half hour or so, you can see the drips on the concrete way better than sand..

My wife came home from work shortly after we got the boat on the trailer. During dinner, she said that the KF looked so clean and nice that I should just leave it like that and not paint it at all!

Gonna be doing the leak check in a couple hours. Breakfast at my favorite mom 'n' pop restaurant in a little while. Yay! :tongue-new:
