Re: i broke down and did it... i bought SMART TABS

Seems like a very "manual" set-up, and I would have gone the opposite way (i.e. more money, more electronics). But, if it works for you, why not?

If you go for this, you'll need some kind of distance marking on the two pull ropes to make sure you get the same amount of adjustment on both sides.

I look forward to seeing the complete slideshow of the whole process. Could you get someone to take some pictures of you while underway as well?

Hi Stevens,

I do have some video of my accelerations with the Smart Tabs. I will include that when I can. All this might take a couple weeks.

Regarding the manual setup you are correct, I will set markers or maybe just knots (sp?) in the rope for different positions. Remember my boat is only 13' long. I can easily change the settings. If I were to use electronics they would most certainly drain the batteries & actuators in order to simulate the ride I got with the Smart Tabs. Oh and you were right about the shock absorbing effect of the Smart Tabs. My 3 hour run with the Lencos hurt! I really did neglect the performance of the Smart Tabs. I am now a true believer.

Nautijohn would you be interested in sponsoring me? :D :D :D :D I can provide plenty of feedback. All I ask for is shocks, and parts and tabs to mess around with :D :D :D

Boatster

Automatic Self Regulating Trim and Stabilizer Tabs. They mount ti the transom at the bottom of the boat and work like airplane wing flaps. Go to www.nauticusinc.com or search on this site.

I'm just about sold on the tabs but....

My tidal boat dock goes aground at very low tides. I just make sure the engine is raised and I've never had a problem (unless I screwed up my tide timing and wanted to use the boat when it was aground!)

Looks to me like the smart tabs will simply extend out as the hull hits the mud and I should have no problem.

Or do I have to rig "beaching" lines and give myself one more thing to worry about when leaving the boat when low water is pending.

I'm getting smart tabs for father's day. I have a 19' cuddy with a 3.0, so I think I'll get the largest tabs.

I have been contemplating getting smart tabs for my boat. I have a 23' Slickcraft. I'm wondering if it is too big for them.

I'm trying to figure out if they will improve the performance/handling of my 21' open bow fish-n-ski with a 5.7L running on small inland lakes. It's a Concord, the same or similar hull as a 80-90's Baja 210 sunsport.

Bob in CO

NO
they wont help at all, infact i believe your hull was actually designed with ineffeincy in mind its SUPPOSED to plow like that when you hit it.

IM KIDDING!!!!!!!!!

if you want more MPG, more MPH, better handling, smoother ride, less plowing at take-off, and more chicks, GET SOME TYPE OF TABS.

if you wanna save some cash doing so, GET SMART TABS.

and no i do not work for them, but i WOULD like a shirt!

Myoutboards,

you know what you're asking for, don't you? Here's the shirt NautiJohn proposed a few days ago:

"What do you guys think of a T-shirt ---
_______________________________________________
SMART TABS
Automatically Improve Your Performance
(insert Boat Picture)
VIAGRA FOR YOUR BOAT
________________________________________________

Can't be serious all the time."
Myoutboards, are you sure you want that t-shirt?

I've been eyeballing Smart Tabs for the past week. A buddy and I got a sweetheart deal on a 1959 18' Squall King with a 1964 Evinrude SportFour 60 HP and I don't know how much the whole shebang weighs but it has to be a lot. I understand that Nauticus is in Ohio? I may have to make a trip.

Hi all,

We are new to boating, and recently found this wonderful forum. I have read through most of this thread, and must say I had no idea what those little flapper-thingies were on some of the boats I’ve seen.

We just bought a new Bayliner 185 Merc 3.0. When the wife and I are out by ourselves, (Il River) I really can’t complain about getting up on plane… but I would like to lower rpms and still stay up for a more economical cruising.

Will the Smart Tabs allow this with our boat? Also, what would be the advantages of Smart Tabs with a more loaded boat, say 5 or 6 adults?

Lastly, what part number would I need for an 18’ 135 hp. I am confused between the 4-cycle and the 2-cycle form on the website: http://www.nauticusinc.com/index_1024.html

Would I order the ST1290-60?

Again, this is primarily for river boating.

Thank you.

Inthesticksnow

Use the ST1290-60, and your boat is ideal for these tabs. Should plane easily with a full load of people.
