I just started to read this .. but had to say real quick ..

CSM is weight/Sq foot .. not yard.

So you have approx 27 oz of CSM ( if apples were apples ). :) Thus making your total ( by yard ) 35oz.

Unless I am missing something here ..

.... Continue reading ...

YD.

lol......you just cant help your self can you?....

doc.. the point is.....(and was intentionally made for first time deck installers) to understand the thickness needed to preserve the deck.
this includes heavy traffic and gear.

they will be able to know by reading this......that you use 2 layers of the thicker style CSM....and the thin woven.

(yes, we can get CSM thicker, but chances are, they wont, and if given the option of 3 weights.......3/4 oz 1 oz and 1.5. they will usually go for the thick stuff.

and that was the point......not, the weight of csm per squair millimetre

I was going for the Ondarvr scientific 'tongue in cheek' post :D .. not a " Your wrong Im right " posting :) .

Sorry if I sounded otherwise.. Peace..

No no..I understand.

Good write up btw.. I went through the whole OP.

Very informative 'Step by Step' guide in fact. Anyone using this guide will never go wrong.

Are you open to some suggestions on this write up ? .. or will you think that I am just being Negative ?

type one up the way you would do it...:)

we are looking for more posts like this and the spider crack post you did.

the basic stuff ....like re sufracing gellcoat...transom replacement..

that is what we want to put in the how to's.

the archives are huge....and no way to organise them like a library.

so the how to thread we are going to create needs all this king of stuff....

type away !

Re: How to fiberglass a deck and foam a hull

So here's what I've been workin on. The aft section was really soaked and as I'm going fwd Im still finding slightly damp floatation foam. After I pulled the carpet you can see how bad the floor really was. Notice the rotted bulkhead going from left to right at the fwd engine mount. It makes me worried that the engine mount is also rotted since the bulkhead sits against it and both are gel coated in together. Also notice the shoddy repair on the left side of the boat, right side in pic. Owner plugged in some wood and never glassed over it! That thing must have gotten soaked with the first hint of rain! (shaking my head). So I guess I'm looking for a path forward. I think I'll have to pull the tank and replace the bulkhead and core sample the engine mount?

Core sample any wood that looks suspect of being wet. Remove the fuel tank and check the sole below the tank....core sample stringers too.... Try to get a good look at the transom for signs of water also...

Get the forum codes from photobucket and drop in text.....

Dont know if its too late for me to post. But great thread... Has this thread been stickied yet? if it has than i obviously have not been looking at stickies lately! I will be referring to this thread when the time comes..

Thanks everyone

And guys, we are all fellow captains of our own ships here at Iboats. And each captain will have thier own opinions about how stuff can be done. We appreciate everything and anything that you ol'timers (based on the amount of time you have been on iboats not by your age :) ) are very knowledgable and we all appreciate the help.
THANK YOU

So as I read back thru all this stuff page by page I stumbled across this. Thought I missed it somehow so did a search with the complete title and it didn't come up. Great post and answered some questions I did have. In this it is mentioned that it should be a sticky. I agree
