Hey guys take a look at the strange lines on this free project I picked up.All the transom repair pics I've found look so much simpler than this boat.

Should I cut the top of the back of the boat off?

Its a 1972 Winner.

The transom is two peices thick at the bottom and only one peice thick at the top.The bigger peice goes right to the top of where it kind of 45 s towards the front of the boat. The smaller peice comes up to the top of where the motor bracket roll over.

The inside of the transom has no fiberglass skin to it.

Let me know if you need some more pics or diffrent angles.

Thanx
Bryan

From what I can tell it looks like you're going to have to take the cap off. No real comfortable way to replace the transom with it on.

By cap you mean the whole top of the boat?

Would it be seamed right under the rub rail?

Would I need to cut it?

Yeah it'll be joined under the rub rail. Search cap removal & there should be plenty of restore threads to choose from. If the stringers and deck are shot then you'll need to properly secure the hull. If not, you'll have a heck of a time putting the cap back on.

Oops' hull extension has a wealth of information. Although long there is an index on the first page.
