if you sew the zipper into a pocket and unexposed, I don't see how one or the other would be much different in feel..the plastic ones feel pretty hard themselves..

Re: How I made my boat seats.....(guide)

I have learned so much from this thread and have started all new seats and I am almost done. Does anyone know how to install cushons on the side of the boat without using those buttons? I have an open bow 92 rinker and I see no way to take them off or reinstall them without a fastener that would be on top of the uhpolstrey. Any help? And thanks for all the help I have already gotten from you guys.

This thread is great. Seats sometime are overlooked when restoring a boat until it is time for them and bam another big expense I believe I will attempt to do my own seats this time thanks to this thread. Im also not far from u. Do u do your boating on the river?

Thanks for the great info! I am redoing the sundeck on our boat and also the rear seat cushions due to rotten wood. The advice that you have given will help me complete this project with more confidence than before. I can only hope that it turns out as good as yours.

Well...i may have to redo my seats again...not from bad design or poor construction...or even a change in design....it's just that..well....i can't find them!!!!

We've been remodeling our basement, and that is where my little fab shop was...everything got moved around or packed away.
they have simply vanished

:(

not that it is funny...but LOL..I know how ya feel, I lose stuff all the time, due to lack of space, it gets piled up and buried and sometimes it just disappears!

well...i found them...they got stowed away underneath the staircase...
all in good shape except for one seat back. the one that matches the seat base for the engine cover.

hoping to get started again on it soon

I know you said it was going to be a surprise but what did you end up doing for the plywood/seat backing? Was it a marine grade ply or box store purchased? was there any special prep needed? I just got all my material samples to start a project just like this. Now i just have to pick my colors and make sure my wife and her machine are up to the task.

Thanks

Brad

great write up , on the next one try this. take your base board with corners rounded and lay it on vinyl face trace around it with a 1/2 inch gap. its faster, then lay it on the foam and do the same. when you sew it the foam will be bigger than the cover. you need the foam pressure to pull out wrinkles and shape the cushion. nice work, im not picking apart just trying to show you a quicker way. i hope you dont mind, if you do just let me know also if you glue 1/4 foam inside on the vinyl it makes the seats hold shape to. jim
