How do I clean rust from the inside of a gas tank?

Let the paint cure before splashing gas on it. Are you in a hurry to use the tank, Peter?

The reason I cleaned it and got it fixed up was to use it to run a mid-50s 10hp Johnson....which I currently have spark on.

Can't seem to get the fuel to flow out of the tank though.

Is your pump on the tank working, making pressure in the tank? The pump on my tank looks different from your pump. Your pump looks like a rubber bulb instead of a pump valve. My tank is pictured below.

So just a quick update. I cleaned the points and replaced the coils and spark plug wires on the 50's Johnson 10hp that I have, got it installed and confirmed good spark. Then took the tank apart and played with it for a while. I used a pin to pry out the mesh cover at the bottom of the sending unit - after playing it for a while, it began pumping gas well.

Then I ran the motor, and it wouldn't start....

Then I attached the gas line....and it fired up after a few pulls.

It's running now....now I've got to get it running right, and I'll start a new thread for that.
