NS, I'm not saying that need to tear the whole crankcase in pieces, what's ideal to do as a preventive internal maintenance is to remove the cylinder head, exhaust cover if having one clean all the filth such as salt layers, salt crusts, rust collected on the entire water passages to pristine clean condition, install new gaskets torqued well to factory specs. It's entirely up to you if wanting to go that route that will asure top cooling in the entire crankcase. If the temp alarm triggers due o an overheat condition after having installed a new impeller defintely that motor is not cooling right. Need to test the combo at open water at full throttle for say a 5 minutes ride, will know if overheats or not...

If the cylinder, exhaust cover bolts and threads are extremely salted expect to break some bolt's heads when being removed, a machine shop will remove them easily. Most if not all boaters doesn't want to go for an iternal water passages preventive maintenence due to fear of breaking bolts and/or the associated hand labor cost if sending the motor to a shop to perform that job...

Finally can get some work in this week. Today I’ll be attempting to descale the internal water passages.
I already have the foot removed. So I’ll be using a large container to hold up to 5 gallons of the descaler. A sump pump with tubing to connect it to the inlet pipe. I already have a larger diameter tube connected to the pisser to help move any large pieces of salt and crust. I’ll just circulate back into the bucket for a while and see if all this helps

You won't need 5 gal. I just did this to my 50 (just posted a new thread about it). 1/2 gal descaler mixed with 1/2 gal water in a 5 gal bucket was plenty.

I used descaler from West Marine and with the foot off I used a bilge pump connected to the water inlet. Put the descaler in a big bucket and circulated the solution through the motor for about an hour with it peeing back into the bucket. Put a screen mesh with a rubber band around the bilge pump as to not reintroduce any grim back into the motor

Assume you removed the thermostat and bolted the cap back on previously running the descaler through the motor, right ? If not the cylinder head area has been just partially descaled...
